applyToParts indexing

Hello,

we're trying to show a playlist with a VAST ad played on the second position using the applyToParts config option.

It works when using applyToParts: [0], but it doesn't work when using any other index.

we're using OVA for JW 5.x - v.0.5.0 RC5 (build 50) and player 5.8.2011, have a demo here: http://footeste.info/jwp-ova

can you help?

thanks in advance
cheers, rui

Hi Rui,

How very strange!

I just took your exact config (straight from your page) and setup my own test running RC5 build 50 and it works properly:

http://static.openvideoads.org/support/rui/apply-to-parts/jwplayer.html

So something is obviously wrong - I'm just not sure what it is :O

Would you mind turning up the debug levels on your page to include:

"fatal, config, vast_template, playlist, segment_formation"

It will help me try to see what's going on...

May also be an idea to upgrade to the latest RC6 build and see if that makes a difference... but how strange...

Hi Paul,

thanks for the reply.

so, i updated the OVA build to v1.0.0 RC6 (build 13) and the debug level to "fatal, config, vast_template, playlist, segment_formation"

but still can't index the ad at the second place

I'm wondering if it's something to do with the actual stream you are playing for some reason... looking at the debug, the ad is being put into the correct slot:

JW playlist created (7 items) :
0:{ type: http, streamName: video.mp4, baseURL: null, duration: 0, startTime: 00:00:00 },
1:{ type: http, position: pre-roll, streamName: http://movieads.imgs.sapo.pt/2011/Banif_JorgeCouto_2.flv, baseURL: null, duration: 30, startTime: 00:00:00 },
2:{ type: http, streamName: video.mp4, baseURL: null, duration: 0, startTime: 00:00:00 },
3:{ type: http, streamName: video.mp4, baseURL: null, duration: 0, startTime: 00:00:00 },
4:{ type: http, streamName: video.mp4, baseURL: null, duration: 0, startTime: 00:00:00 },
5:{ type: http, streamName: video.mp4, baseURL: null, duration: 0, startTime: 00:00:00 },
6:{ type: http, streamName: video.mp4, baseURL: null, duration: 0, startTime: 00:00:00 },

What happens if you change the stream from "video.mp4" to my test stream "http://streaming.openvideoads.org/shows/the-black-hole.mp4" - that's the only difference I can see between your page and the page I created...

really weird

so i replicated all of your code in my script and it doesn't play the ad neither http://footeste.info/jwp-ova/

even in your example (http://static.openvideoads.org/support/rui/apply-to-parts/jwplayer.html) i can't see it either.. saw it on your first reply (02:18) but, now, can't see it: it hangs after the first clip is played.

i tried with your VAST server (the johnny rotten ad) and it doesn't hang but doesn't show the ad in second place, jumps right off to the second video.

can you see it working? so weird

Hi,

I could see it working, but now it's not.. something definitely is wrong here - and it is inconsistent/strange.

Best leave with me for 24 hours - I'll get to the bottom of it but it will take some time to track down...

hmmm...

It looks like something related to the 5.8 player.. if you try the 5.7 player it works. That's why I could see it working here in my environment (I'm running 5.7 for tests at the moment).

How about you temporarily try using my 5.7 player instance on my QA server and see if it works for you? Let's see if we can narrow it down to a player related issue then I can investigate further...

You can temporarily find a 5.7 player here:

that's right, it works perfect with 5.7

we have a production installation of jwp 5.8, i'll roll it back to 5.7 for now.. we're supposed to be running a campaign as we speak ;)

thanks Paul!

Ok... in the meantime, I'll try to find out what's changed with 5.8 - it may be a player bug, or it may be a new setting that I don't have in or something.

I'll ask/investigate today... sorry about the issue..
