OVA + GA Plugin + Google as Referrer = 300: Player initialization failed: TypeError: Error #1009

Hi,

I've discovered an strange issue with the OVA Plugin. An Client reported that he gets the error "300: Player initialization failed: TypeError: Error #1009" when trying to access an page (with embedded flowplayer) via google results. I only get the error when I'm not logged in via google account and trying to access a page from the google results.

Example:
http://www.google.com/search?q=assassins+creed+revelations+&hl=de#q=assassins+creed+revelations&hl=d...

The Article "Assassin's Creed Revelations: Umfassende Informationen und alle ..." from "PC Games Hardware - 26. Juni 2011" (at the bottom of the results).

If i'm logged i don't get any errors. Is this an known bug and is there an workaround? I've deactivated the OVA GA-Plugin via:

'analytics': {
'google': {
'ova': {
'enable': false
}
}
}

And it works - but i change my login status at google (e.g logout) i get the error ...

Strange - I can't seem to replicate the problem.

Are you running the Debug version of Flash? Would you mind cutting and pasting the stacktrace that pops up with the error when you see it?

Hi Paul,

I'm able to reproduce the issues every single time:
click on the given link in the google resultspage. If the player loads correct: login/logout from goole and click the click in the resultspage another time - volia: "300: Player initialization failed: TypeError: Error #1009"

Ok - great - that helps.. I'll look into it now.

But in the meantime, can I ask you to checkout the latest version of the OVA for Flowplayer plugin from the OVA developer repository and try running against that (it should be build 216 or so I think)...

I remember making a change some time ago to stop the GA framework even being intialised when "enable": false is set, so I think your build doesn't have that.

That may fix your problem, but I'm still left wondering why this is happening with the login/logout - I'll investigate/fix that now.

Gosh - so strange - I just can't seem to replicate this with the latest build and example that turns off GA..

Could I ask another favour - would you mind running this test page:

http://static.openvideoads.org/qa/rc3-35/ova.flowplayer/examples/analytics/example03.html

And let me know if the problem happens for you with that? (that's the same setup as you have - turning GA off completely)...

Also, what OS/browser are you running - if I use the same it may help.

I've tried Chrome, Firefox and Opera on OSX and can't seem to get it to happen..

Wow - ok, so the GA issue is fixed, but strangely that's something completely different now - have never seen that before, but I can replicate it here! :)

Hiya.. would it be possible to turn on some debug for OVA on that page.. just these settings:

"levels": "config, fatal, vast_template, http_calls"

That would really help me wade through things to see why it's falling over on the ad call..

sure but there's one problem: if i'm trying to debug it in firefox the whole flash-plugin container crashes.

Error:

Yeh, that ad call is returning a wrapped ad tag that doesn't return a VAST response... but I'm still intrigued/confused as to how that Flash Debug schedule() exception is being thrown... I need to track that down if I can.. but I can't seem to get it to happen again..

Are you still seeing that?

Hiya.. I may have found the issue with the "schedule()" Flash debug exception.. I've checked in a new build with a possible fix for it.

If you give it a go, let me know if you still see the Exception. I'm hoping not, but as I'm struggling to replicate it now, I've added the fix in a little blindly...

Hi Paul,

with our current setup and the new OVA fix all i get is the error "16:21:34 GMT+0200 VideoAdServingTemplate: VAST response is not a valid XML response - ignoring response" (because of the empty post-roll adcall) and a black screen without any error-codes is displayed.

Yeh - there could have been a bug there - would you mind upgrading to the very latest dev build:

OVA for Flowplayer - v0.6.0 RC3 (build 220)

and let me know if you still see the same thing with that build?

I just tried your setup here, but I get "security exceptions" on all those ad calls (crossdomain restrictions) so it's a little problematic to test fully...
