Some questions about License, Skins etc.

16 replies [Last post]

Hello,

I wanted to use the player on my site,
there are ads displayed - so I have to buy the commerical license?
If I want to make my own skin, I don't have to buy the skin license?
Allow YouTube to embed their hosted videos with a "hotlink" to the JW Player on my site?
Could I buy plugins after I bought the JW Player?
Does the JW Player support other Video sites like YouTube for example Vimeo or others?
Could I download the free version of JW Player
and use it on my site while I develop it
and if the site is finished, I buy the commercial/PRO version and then I'm allowed to use it?
Is there any difference in the code itself between the FREE and the PRO version?

- You need a license since you are running ads.
- You don't need a license for your own skin.
- You can run YouTube with the JW Player.
- Yes, you can buy plugins after.
- No, we only support YouTube.
- Yes, you can download the free version here - http://www.longtailvideo.com/players/jw-flv-player/
- Yes, there are differences between the free/pro versions

Yes, there are differences between the free/pro versions

Yes, there's no "jwplayer" button and so on.
But I mean if I could use the free version while I'm developing and if the site is finished I could switch to the PRO version?

Yes, you can use the free version while you are developing.

Another question:
I tried a own skin but it doens't work.
So I download the example skin beelden
but it doesn't work either.
The skins applies, but the video doesn't play.
When I remove the skin-config (JS) then it works again with the normal skin.

Can you provide a link?

I mean can you provide a link to where you are running this?

On my local host.

I need a link to be able to debug this.

Okay I found the problem:
With so.addParam('flashvars', 'skin=skinname.swf');
it doesn't work, with so.addParam('flashvars', 'file=http://content.longtailvideo.com/videos/8.flv&skin=skinname.xml'); it works.

Two new questions:
- If I buy the PRO version,
have I the permission for upgrades/updates?

- How could I set a own font in my XML file for the player?

- Yes

- Not possible without custom skin modification, I believe.

Not possible without custom skin modification, I believe.

Yes, I make my own skin
and I want to set my own font for my own skin.

I already use these sites to make my skin *huh*
I just want to know how I can set a own font for my own skin.

You can, but you have to do it in Flash. We don't generally provide source code (Flash) support. Sorry!
