Red 5 streaming stops after 4-5 seconds

8 replies [Last post]

Hello, I have set up a Red5 Server using the latest code trunk, I think v9. I have set up JW Player just fine, and have the video streaming, but I am having an issue where the video pauses after 4 or 5 seconds. Once I click a later point in the timeline, it plays just fine from then on, and I can move back and forth through the timeline without issues. Once I refresh/reload the video, it goes back and does the same thing.

I have encoded the video with several encoders including Flash Video Encoder CS3 and have injected metadata using FLVMDI (but sure exactly what to inject, but ran the tool anyway).

I have also tried several embedding methods, 1) using the standard object, and 2) using swfobject with no change.

Does anyone have any suggestions or have experienced this in the past?

Thanks.

Sorry, the demo file is located here; http://www.tonnopro.com/video/readme-red5.html

I am having the same exact problem.
Playing with bandwidth and quality flashvars didn't change a thing. It looks like short demo videos work fine. But any video longer than 5-10 minutes suffers this problem.

Could it be related to my server bandwidth?

Any suggestions?

What version of Red5 do you have installed? Have you tried downgrading your version? I haven't had a chance yet, but that was my next step.

I had originally installed Red5 v7 and it seemed to work well, but I had to do a reinstallation and went with the current development version (and updated jwplayer at the same time), and was looking forward to the improvements, but now I found this problem.

Doesn't seem like it's a JW problem.

Ok, I think I found the problem it's defintely not in the JW player. I installed flowplayer and it's doign the same thing. I hopped ontot he Red5 IRC channel and got some pointers. Basically it was determined that the oflaDemo has an issue with checkBandwidth and needs recompiled without that call. Since I'm a newbie, I have to grow a bunch of talent before I can get that done. Either that or hold out until a guru can help.

OK for now I got it working. Basically I blew away the fill installation nd did it all over again. When In installed the demo applications, I only installed the oflaDemo app. So far I can get it to stream fine without the pauses. I'm still getting the error in the log file, but it doesn't seem to be affecting anything at this time.

Thanks Matt. I will follow your suggestion.
I am using Red5 0.7 because anything more recent will not work on my Vista x64. The Java wrappers they use are not compatible with x64.

I will update you when I try again.

It seems to work. But I had to go back to 0.63.

Yeah I had the same problem. Appreciate it's still a beta product but this is a show stopper, so I'm going to have to use Wowza.
