Hi we're using JW's player which is very good but we're at a point where we need something custom, where do we go to find a skilled flash coder/designer?

If you have any tips then do let us know, the price isn't so important. Thanks a lot! :)

How much do you like to be customized? Just colors? Can you give an idea?

Regards,

Axel

Hi Axel,

I need things like a new skin, slow-motion and other things, take a look at the break.com player the "drag" option and other things, so it's a project for a skilled flash dude! We need other things too but just to give an idea :)

I am also interested in finding someone with flash skills who would like to adapt the Media Player. Prompt and good payment is secured.
I would like to start with a transparent logo which appears all the time in the player in the lower or upper left corner of the player.
That is to say, just minor adaptions and no new skins.
On the other hand, each new version of Jeroen's player would probably be changed this way. I would like to start with the integration of a transparent logo with the next version (3.12 ???).
gerd

@Gerd - the players already have options for transparent logos!
please see the overlayandlogo demo on the demopage
if you make the transparent logo.png wide/high enough it will seem to be in the left/bottom...

@andersen
I know all your examples very well and I use them as the basis for learning and adapting to my needs. They are very useful and I am quite often on your site.
I also know the readme files well but somehow - I do not know why - I had the impression that the implementation of a logo requires the change of .as files.

Now it just strikes my mind when writing this line. Transparent logo as a flashvar in comparison to a logo which is directly included in the player and not as a flashvar. For the time being, a flashvar is indeed quite useful and could later be replaced by something in the player itself.

Andersen, thanks a lot.
Since you are the JS guru I intend to bring up to your attention a multiple playlist based on your example "multipleplaylists.htm" which works in all browers but IE 7.0 reports a minor JS error. IE 7.0 shows the error message nonetheless it works. I guess I need two more days to put all the stuff together and clean the code.

Hello everyone,

We need a little more work done than skinning. Looking to overhaul quite a bit of the player. Mostly I need bugs in the current player fixed along with some modifications to the javascript interface. Please see this thread for more details and my contact information.

Thanks,
Josh

Hi Peter

You can find a freelancer at elance .com You will also find a lot of offshore freelancers (Russians, Indians..) that can give you good prices.

Some of the people there are good, but don't take the first offer, make sure you check their credentials properly, i.e previous work etc. and DO NOT pay them upfront at any cost, as not everyone from India... can deliver what they promise 100%. But if you look prorperly, you will find someone at low rates. web designer

I'm also looking to customize the JW player with a new aviation type skin. I want to start hosting my own aviation videos on my aviation video blog: http://www.flightschoollist.com/blog/ I want my logo to be transparent in the video at the bottom right hand corner of the player. If you have some previous experience customizing the JW player please e-mail me the links of the JW players that you have worked on. info (at) flightschoollist.com.

Thank You
Jack

hello,

I am looking for anyone that can customize the image rotator. I need to change out the backwards and forwards buttons (easy) and add a Tab at the bottom for each "slide" so that the user can go directly to those slides without having to cycle through the slides using the backwards and forwards buttons. Each tab would include the Title of the slide. I have mockups for anyone who is interested.

One slight complicating factor is that the swf will be used with the Joomla Image Rotator module. I don't foresee this as an issue as I've already verified that the source located on this site can be used to generate a swf that works with the Joomla module. However, it might be necessary to truncate some of the titles users can add for each "slide" to ensure that 4-5 tabs can be displayed.

Please email links of previous customizations and qualifications to jkirby (at) kirbymixedmedia.com

Seeking someone to customize the interface as is done here:
http://www.kentuckyderby.com/2008/videos/298

Please send me a quote to create the video player complete with thumbnails to the right.

info@roosites.com

Sheeesh man, it would be easy money, but they haven't touched the JW Player.

It's just done with CSS & HTML.

Just copy the page code.

So, you want a customized version of this player? I am your man.

I am currently in the process of taking a client's design (including a new size, new buttons, button animations, new button locations, and several new screens, views, and functionalities) and integrating it into the JW Player ... basically using the player as the engine for the client's design.

In the process, I have learned this player inside-out, and feel confident that I can make any necessary changes, both in terms of the UI, functionality, etc.

Reserve me now, so I can start your customization as soon as I finish this one. Take advantage of my cumulative knowledge about this player.

Level 1: General Set Ups for the Technologically Challenged - Having trouble getting the player set up with the built-in custom options and skinning capabilities? Want to utilize the player's As-Is functionality to it's highest, but just don't know how to do it right. No Problem! Let me help you integrate it into your current site.

Level 2 : Basic Customization - I can take your concept and designs and integrate them into the existing player. If all buttons and new designs follow the exact same sizes and functions (face-lift *only*), and no new Actionscripting is required, this is the solution for you!

Level 3: Advanced Customization - Want the player to perform entirely new functions? Have a new concept for a skin that doesn't conform to the current size & button locations? Want your buttons to have cool new animations? Does your customization require adjustments to the Actionscript files? Then this is the solution for you!

I will provide a customized Proposal (estimate) to suit your exact needs. Basic Rates: $35/hr, 50% of Proposal Estimate due as a Deposit to commence work, Remainder of actual hours worked due upon completion. Complete Terms and Conditions included with proposal.

I'm putting my hotmail account here, since it's my spam-catcher. I will respond to your inquiry from my business account.

Contact me at posternb@hotmail.com for further details or to inquire about a Proposal for your project.

Cheers!
Leland

@Leland - how about answer a thousand "level 1" questions in the forum - charging for open source methods is not really good

@Anderson...

I'm sure many people won't believe this, but I really do appreciate where you are coming from, and for people who are comfortable trying to do it themselves, I have no problem with sharing knowledge and letting them have a go at it themselves. Heck, if it weren't for the OS community and forums like this, I wouldn't have the knowledge or expertise I have gained that allows me to do what I do. But this is within my comfort zone... and it isn't that way for everyone.

Allow me to compare this situation to a similar one in a totally different industry: I can also find plenty of 'open source' methods for tiling my bathroom, but I would still prefer to pay an expert than to try myself (especially after my last home-repair failure). Likewise, some people may not be comfortable trying to implement certain technologies themselves, and would prefer to hire someone to just do it for them.

I charge for my time to perform a service that someone may not feel comfortable attempting themselves. I am *not* charging for the product. While I realize that *most* people on these forums are at least comfortable enough to do the basics by themselves, I also know that there may be some who are curious, but not ambitious enough to try it themselves. Or, maybe they have tried it, and like my grandmother, aren't as technologically savvy as you or me, and just want someone to do it for them because they are tired of fighting it.

Again, I return to my home-repair-type-comparison above. I know I can read a repair manual or ask the guy at Home Depot, but sometimes it's just easier to pay an expert than to deal with it myself. Besides, I have no problem being hired by someone who would rather pay for a service than to spend hours studying forums and figuring it out on their own. And if they want to spend that time studying and messing with it, more power to them. That's how the rest of us do it, and I have the utmost respect for that. But I also have plenty of respect for the ones who'd rather pay an expert than fight a technology they don't understand as well.

If you don't think someone should be available to perform a service that someone wants, then don't pay for that service. Keep asking questions, keep studying, and figure it out yourself. I think that it's really awesome that so many people are able to do that, and that so many people can learn these things that way. But I am not gonna stop someone who'd rather just pay an expert from doing so, and if I can be the expert in question, even better.

As many freelancers can tell you, we sometimes spend almost as much time seeking new clients as we do working for those clients. If someone from this forum wants to hire me, and I can pay the bills another month without having to get another "day job" to cover the difference between my bills and my freelance income, then I will gladly perform the service they desire.

I know that accepting freelance employment to implement an Open Source solution for the inexperienced touches a nerve for some people, but I also know that if they really don't want to do it themselves, and they don't hire me, they'll just hire someone else. Besides, I honestly don't expect many 'level 1' clients... but what kind of businessman would I be if I only offered partial services?

Last, but not least, if you need further proof that such services -- even the 'level 1' stuff -- are needed, just read the rest of this forum. While they may not be in the majority, there are obviously people who are seeking someone to implement what we might consider to be the most basic functions of the product, those who'd rather just pay an expert than to do it themselves.

Respectfully,
Leland

While I don't actively promote my efforts as you do, I share your view that some folks do need help and are willing to pay for it. More power to you. Open source or not some folks just don't want to struggle and I like you am willing to provide a service.

When I can I try to contribute here and help others that want to learn but I also am more than willing to provide as service when that is not the case.

I did purchased an unrestricted license for the scripts here so that I didn't breach the trust JW has placed in his users. If some are offended apparently JW is not. After all he sells the licenses.

Regards - Jimb

@Leland - thanks for the reply...

first let me emphasize that i didnt mean to imply that you are doing anything illegal or in breach of the cc licensing.

that aside, i dont like the idea of charging the challenged, just help when you can...
would you charge to escort a child or your grandmother across the street? or someone asking road directions or the time?
how about a drowning?

i dont think your example with tiling is reasonable, tiling is a difficult craft, i have actually done tiling my self and have also had professionals do tiling for me, and can tell that not even all pros can do it properly, its simply difficult.

further, be cautious with the use of the argument type "if i didnt do it, someone else would, so it better be me", thats the argument of apologetic politicians and criminals - morally it comes right next to "i was only acting under order"
if thats in fact the situation, let the others do it, and leave it to to their conscience...

now, while i dont mind people earning doing an honest job, and making webpages for people can definitly be an honest job - doing complex web pages can be as difficult to do as tiling.

but you explicitly mention the challenged and basic setups. and a basic setup of a player on a webpage takes only a couple of minutes or three, including upload, when you know how. theres even a wizard that will generate the code with correct spelling and syntax - free of charge!

enough bitching, my suggestion will be the following: hang around in the forum, answer a question or ten a day, put up a webpage with your free solutions - thatll be the best advertising/recommendation you can possibly get for your paid services!

by far better than any ads you could ever pay, and it will only take an investment of a little time - with the added bonus that you will learn a lot more on customer preferences and requirements than you would have imagined.
and who knows, after a while JeroenW might just grant you a permanent link somewhere here...

good luck with the work and looking foreward to see you around - andersen

@andersen & leland: It's no problem if you charge people for a basic setup of the mediaplayer. If somebody wants to have things working immedately and he is willing to spend some money, no problem!

It'd of course be nice if we put some work in the forum, but this is just on a when-time basis. If people want to get their player working ASAP, just charge them a small amount.

Looking for a programmer with expert Java or Flash skills.

I have created a game board that allows people to play various board games on it. If you think of the game board as a computer, the various board game modules are the software. I have a number of modules completed and others are works-in-progress. At this time, I require only two versions of programming - one is based on questions and answers and the other for spelling. Depending on the module developed, the focus can be on fun or learning, but always educational and directed towards various ages and interests.

What I have right now is hard copy versions, except the rules of play which I have already put into HTML format.

Although I have rudimentary understanding of Java, I am an old school programmer. As yet, this object oriented programming just has not connected with my brain.

I am prepared to look at a working relationship and remuneration based on sweat equity or outright payment for your services.

If this basic proposal interests you, we can move onto the next level where you can sign off on a nondisclosure agreement and I can provide you with more detail regarding the modules and their programming format. Once this is done, we can discuss remuneration - type and amount.

Let me know if you are interested.

Please contact John Pyziak at jpyziak@mts.net

Thank you.

I’m looking for a developer who modify the playlist.swf within the JW player so that a “Add to Cart” or “Download” graphic could substitute “btnIcn” . This modification would include giving us the ability to specify the “Add to Cart” or “Download graphic” in the xml playlist.

If you are interested in the project please send me a quote along with a timeline for completion. If you have any question please email me at ron@mediastreet.com

I have installed the FLV player on my site and it works well. But I am not 100% happy with the player. I know that there is a wealth of informaiton on this site, but my time (and skills) are limited. I am looking for someone who is professional and can do the following for my site/player:

BTW I am will to pay via PayPal or other form of you chosing.

1. I prefer the video list (thumbnails) to be in HTML instead of embedded in the flash. This will make it easie for me to add/change delete videos.
2. I would like to play a random :10 pre-roll commercial before each full video is played.
3. If at all possible, I would like the video to be streamed from YouTube. I want this not becasue of saving space, but becasue I want the "views" attributed to my video.
4. I would like a youtube-like "embed" or "send link" type of button on the player for each video.
5. A little graphical tweaking of the player itself.

I know that each one of these items has been addressed on this this forum, but as I stated above, I'd rather pay someone who actually knows what they are doing to do it.

If you think you can accomplish the items above, please send me an email and an example of your work to:
tony at oceanpromotions dot com

To see what I have now go to www.OceanPromotions.com and click on the video link.

Thanks,

Hi,

Not sure if this thread is still active but here goes…

I run a small site that delivers video interviews broken into sections so users can skip to key parts without watching the whole interview, the playlist is basically a list of sections within a single interview. All content is FLV format and delivered via RTMP. The existing custom player we are using is limited and needs replacing so we have chosen the excellent JWPLAYER for this but over and above the basic functions we need the following mods:

1. Custom Flashvars – we need to pass our own vars in (sessionID, clipID etc) and be able to read and use them in a custom set of functions, also we need to log all clicks, views, bits streamed etc to a MSSQL db, we can provide a asp.net web service to handle this but need help interfacing with it.
2. Pre Roll (sort of!) - We want to play an advertising clip before each movie when an item is clicked within the current playlist. This could be an animation or an flv so for ease we’d like to hold an external xml file with a list of swf’s. We can then create whatever swfs we want and the pre-roll function would basically play a random swf from that list then play the item the user clicked on once the swf was finished.
3. End of movie / Recommendations – basically an enhancement of the current recommendations module, we have designed a slide which we need to play at the end of a file or when it is paused. This will basically show a few buttons and the title of the next clip which needs to fade out and get replaced with the next title in the playlist every few seconds (just to get some movement) . If the user clicks that ‘next video’ title is should start playing that item and so son. We have all design and flash anims ready we just need it 'plumbed in'.
4. Playlist with Thumbs Enhancement - we need the standard thumb view playlist expanded so we can include several icons on each clip that trigger some javascript functions like 'rate this clip', recommend a friend etc. We can do the javascript functionality on the site itself but need to be able to trigger a js function and pass some vars to it (pref the custom vars we passed in in point 1.)

All design work will be provided as will a sample xml playlist and set of custom vars.

I would prefer to work only with some who is experienced with this player as I have limited time to make this happen, if anyone can help with this for a fair price I would appreciate it!!
Thanks in advance anyone!!
Dave

Hi all,
I'm an experienced Actionscript + Flash developer, and I'm available to help out with JW's FLV Player modifications and customizations.

If interested, please email me at rayfuss+fl [at] gmail.com

I am a photographer and filmmaker was has messed a bit with this player and I really love it. I've done some experiments with it, and that brief dabbling has given me various ideas about how it might be used in other cool ways. My problem though is that while I realize certain things can be done, doing them would require some a lot of reading, brushing up, and messing with code that would come second nature to someone else.

Primarily, I'm looking for someone with knowledge in PHP, MySQL, and possibly javascript to help me play with the behavior of the JW players playlists. Although it could evolve into something else, what I would be offering in return is lot of content and a means of generating traffic. While the site I'm doing could vary easily have quite lucrative direct sales, or advertising, I am interested in finding someone initially interested in doing it for resume or portfolio reasons, and do not commercial ends planned for the initial launch. (And if you wanted to take and sell your work for a similar purpose to someone else, that would be fine too.)

My interests are creative more then economic, but there are some pretty big economic tie-ins that are possible. I would not mind doing something with the creators of the player too, if they wished.

Basically, I have been planning with the idea of have a feature length, or longer movie that appears different and uniquely for each person that watches it. There would be scenes and a number of rules, for classes of clips, but it would be more randomly generated then say a choose your own adventure. I have 70+ hours of footage from a movie I made (shot in seven countries) that have not done anything with yet, that I would like to do this with. Edited into clips it would not be 70+ hours, but because of the near documentary style it was made, it could be more then a feature length film, and thus nearly like a season of a TV show (which would unfold in a different order for everyone who watched it).

But first, and much simpler, I am going to be going to Europe for a few months to do various photo shoots, and am being given some Eurail passes to shoot the trains, so I'm going to be training all over, shooting fashion models, meeting with various artists, musicians, clothing designers, meeting random people, etc. I'm going to be shooting all of this as I go with some little HD cameras. And I would like to do a similar thing with this footage updated from he road/rail, although less complicated.

This footage can be used to test some of these ideas, and maybe used to set the ground work for either a travel/lifestyleTV show, expanding the website commercially with similar trips, and/or promoting the launch of the movie site/project. The model aspect of what I'm doing should be pretty good for traffic, but I would like to introduce music and random interactions with people also, kind of make the whole fashion part of it just an aspect of it.

I am open to partnering with people also, if they have the skills, work ethnic, and creativity develop and maintain, and most importantly go beyond what ideas I have already come up with.

Basically, although I was doing stuff like this before I saw these last night, here are two websites that kind of present similar video in kind of a new multimedia magazine format.

http://mediastorm.org/
http://www.mercurynewsphoto.com/blog/2007/12/23/uprooted/

Basically, I may do something somewhat similar but with lifestyle, culture, music, and art. Not hard photojournalism, or crisis situations.

I was playing with some footage and photos on hard drive with the JW player on my myspace page, it would vaguely look like that only with ~1 min interludes of bits from interviews or more narrative driven clips.

myspace.com/withpictures

I am leaving in mid August for Europe, and think that with modifications or tweaking of some of the various forum script examples, work that has already been done, there could be something up that I could update to on the road. And then other features or experiments could be added in a more leisurely manner.

Let me know, as I only have one friend who know PHP and various aspects of this well, but someone here who has already messed about with the actual players in retain all of this, might have more interest or a big leg up.

Obviously someone would also have to have some interest in my work and/or taste, and this kind of unorthodox idea, but even beyond the movie, I've also have this humanitarian/NGO benefiting flavor of this concept that would also be cool to do. It just needs to be tested with real world content and an audience, which I think this first thing would be good for.

email me (above)

Hey there JW/javascript/flash experts.

I have a list player setup with thumbnails, its working okay with FLV files streaming from influxis. Im tired of wasting time trying to solve my own issues and wondering if anyone out there would be interested in making a few bucks to sort me out.

Im trying to use h.264 mov's instead of flv files and they arent playing, i just get the loading icon, thats the biggest thing i need help getting to work, also id like to change the state of the thumbnails once the video is playing, to identify that its the one playing.

If you're interested, email me at chris@dunndesign.ca

Thanks!

I'm seeking a freelance Flash Designer/ Action Scripter to make some modifications to the JW Player, including a customized skin with buttons for low and high speed, bandwidth detection, and the ability to direct the player automatically to four different encoded versions (A Flash 7 High speed, a Flash 7 Low Speed, a Flash 9 High Speed, and a Flash 9 Low speed).

Needed immediately. Thanks.

I am looking for someone who can add the "age gate" functionality to the JW player. The functionality should be something similar to what they are using here: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/41240.

Hi,

I m looking for a freelancer or a company that could create for me a simple skin for the JW player (change bouton design ...).
Contact me at : moigg2000[AT]yahoo[dot].fr

Thanks.

hi
do u know of any one in Israel which created skins for the JW player? some one with experience that can help us with skinning our player?

Thanks
Yair

I would like someone to contact me regarding the following core code modifications:

Right now, the player has a way to put a watermark (logo) upon the video. That's great.

But it's only on the UPPER RIGHT side.

I want the player to be modified for me, so that the LOGO is MOVED AROUND every X-Y random seconds,
in various positions on the screen (admin defined, or random.)

This will thwart anyone from re-capturing the video and re-distributing it by simply blocking out the upper-right corner.

Can you give me a US$ price estimate to update the stock JW player with this functionality?

Thanks in advance.

Reply to jeremym [[at] moskowitz-inc [dott] com

@JeremyM

Seems to me all you need to do is create an animated gif file the same size as the player on your web page. Then you can use that as your logo. Building such a gif would only take a few minutes and not require any code rewrite.

On the other hand you can of course rewrite parts of the player code to let you play an flv over the top of your video. Example: http://mymail.playourvideo.net/animatedlogo.htm?id=forum.flv&tv=alogo.flv

To me the gif idea might do just as well and save you some money.

I am looking to get someone to customize my blip.tv player: http://wiki.blip.tv/index.php/Showplayer

e-mail me at ruffneck119@yahoo.com if you can help this is a very simple task :)

While we'd prefer candidates with some creative-integration abilities, this is primarily an opening for a veteran application developer with strong, standards-based coding skill and a passion for establishing bullet-proof online solutions.

Ideally, we are seeking an SF local who would be able to meet on-site when needed, but would consider exceptions for the right fit.

If interested and qualified please send your resume to jobs@247fps.com.
