Does Youtube count plays/views?

5 replies [Last post]

Hello, if I use the JW player on my site and stream in youtube videos, do those plays get counted by Youtube? I would like to promote a series of videos I created and want to get my hit count up at Youtube, but like the JW player's playlist functionality much better than Youtube's playlists. So just curious if plays of Youtube videos through the JW player count as a view at Youtube?

hi, i have the same question as mikey. anybody care to shed some light?

hello all, i'm actually wondering the same thing.

my latest project requires me to embed youtube video but they do not want the ugly player from youtube. so i suggested to use jw player but then they wanted the view count to be added on youtube.

i couldn't exactly pinpoint if the count registered though so any experts here know?

i'm very curious as well...

I did a test. I uploaded a private video and pointed my player to it and watched it several times and my my views from the JW player correspond to the youtube views. So I would say that the count registers on the youtube page.
In terms of youtube Insight I think it comes up as other/viral.

Any opinions ?

I stream yt videos and can say that they do count the views. One problem though: since all request seem(!) to come through your player, yt freezes the viewcount at 300 views. new spam policy by youtube.

a workaround for that is to track your own player views separately I guess. please see my other thread where I need some help regarding this problem.
