Jerky video when uploaded

8 replies [Last post]

Hi i have a couple of videos on a site of mine. When playing the video locally its smooth but when played online through the player its slightly jerky. Can anyone advise why this maybe? im thinking it might have something to do with the frame rate?

Link to video example: http://www.therevolvingstagecompany.co.uk/html/video.html

Thanks to who ever can help!

Cheers,

Tom

Hey Tom,
Very nice product! Your video looks like it was encoded with the wrong aspect ratio. Looks like it should be 16x9.

Seems I have the same problem with the jerky playing.. Video seems to snag and hang especially on shots with camera motion. When I was encoding I experimented and found I got the smoothest motion by encoding using VBR. These files are encoded at an average rate of 850kb and play beautifully on the desktop, but online , even after the video has been completely loaded the shots with motion tend to hang or drop frames intermittently.

IS this caused by using VBR or is it because the bitrate is too high? Flash really can't stand a much lower bit rate at this size frame.

Right now I'm using FlixPro and uploading to Vidego which runs on the Akamai network. It is supposed to be a very fast CDN. The player is stored on my website, don't know if that makes a difference. My example can be seen here.

Thanks in advance,

@Tom,

Your server isn't capable of delivering the video file as fast as it is consumed by the player. Your server maxes out at 740kbps whereas your video bitrate appears to be 957kbps (plus the audio!).

Cap Tain, so what do we do to fix the maxed out server?

Wow love all that data. How did you get that output?

James

Thank you.

I too have jerky playback after uploading. It plays fine locally.
It does not seem to be a bandwidth/buffering issue as the video can be fully downloaded.
I have tried various bitrates and formats. FLV,MP4 and different hosting. Local website server and Amazon S3

I use Squeeze 5

The site uses Joomla with the Allvideos plugin.

Any help would be appreciated
