MP4 Not Playing On iOS

I'm getting the "The video could not be loaded, either because the server or network failed or because the format is not supported" on my iPod Touch. All seems well with desktop web browsers and Android.

Here are the specs on the video format of the mp4 files.

Audio: AAC, 44100 KHz, 121311 Kbps, 2 Channels
Video: AVC, 480 x 270, 495 Kbps, 29.97 fps

How was the video encoded?

I downloaded the video and it works on my iPod. I did some more research and it all has to do with my encoding settings. My videos work on iPhone 4's and iPads, but not on older iPhones and iPod Touches. The reason for that is older models don't support some more advanced h.264 options which give better quality but would eat up more battery life.

If you turn off cabac, b-frames and some other stuff in the encoding process, then it will work. I'm playing around with it now to see what the tradeoff on quality is for the rest of the users.

Yeah, iOS is very picky in regards to encoding...

FYI, I updated my encoding settings to get it to work, but ended up not implementing them in production. There was a slight quality degradation in the process, and I didn't want the large majority of my users to suffer just for legacy support on a mobile platform. Would be nice if Apple could just add in support in their iOS upgrades...

I have used wowza streaming server with jw player. but its not working in iphone4,for both .mp4 and .flv.its working fine in all other browsers.

i use the fw plugin for wordpress and use youtube video, impossible to view it on iphone 4 ios 5 , i have just a black background .. did you know this issue ! :(
would like to pay a pro licence but litle afraid..
