Flash Pro? Flash Builder? Flex Builder? AHHH!!!

5 replies [Last post]

OK so I am NOT a flash designer/developer. I don't really want to be. The most recent version of flash I have on my computer is Flash 8 Professional, and as far as I know that was really the only version....

I'm waaaaaay out of date here. My boss has Flash Professional CS4. I'm want to make a few simple tweaks to the source code, but I really don't have a clue how to do this, or even get it built.

Can Flash Professional CS4 do the job? Or do I need Flex Builder? Flash Builder?

...

Can someone please explain to me what these products are, what they are intended for, and how this contrasts with the old school versions I'm used to?

Thanks!

Luke

You can use CS4 for compiling the V4 player.

However, if you are going to be compiling the V5 Player you will need Flex/Flash Builder. Or you can use Open Source Tools - http://developer.longtailvideo.com/trac/wiki/Player5Roadmap#AutomatedBuilding

Do I need Flex SDK, Ant, and FlexUnit 4? Or just one of these?

So Flash Builder = new version of Flex Builder?

(Really wish Flex/Flash Builder was included in the master collection...)

Luke

I believe you will need all of them.

Flash Builder is the new version of Flex Builder.

OK I just downloaded the trial version of Flex Builder 3. The instructions for version were not accurate... But I figured it out.

As someone who has a license, how do I remove the watermark from the source? I found where the image is referenced... Is it a matter of clearing these out, or is there some sort of flag I need to enable?

How do I put my own logo without compiling it into the player? Is XML playlist the way to go? Is there a config option to get it to go in the bottom right?

Is there a way to compile a different skin into the player like you could with earlier versions? Can this happen with the PNG skins? Are swf skins legacy?

I communicate by email if need be.

Thanks!
