With JW Player - How do I search by keyword?

3 replies [Last post]

If I add JWPlayer to my web site, and upload videos to the web storage, does JWplayer have some type of keyword search software inluded, to play the searched videos on the player?

I'm asking the same thing. All I see is youtube search tools. And warnings about using youtube's api for your own videos on your site.

Is there not some search plugin that searches videos on our own sites? I have no desire to point things to youtube.

You will have to write your own search software.

You can use JavaScript + AJAX on the client for the search input and to load the search results into the player.

You can use the scripting language of your choice on your server to do the searching and return the search results. Depending on how your media files are stored, you may have to search directories or a database on your server.

Many examples have been posted on this Forum. Find one that is close to your requirements and use it as a starting point for your own software.

I just downloaded a great example using the jw player.

It demonstrates how to do most everything you would want to do with the jw player including, on-demand streaming from multiple servers, resizing, sendevent, and dynamically setting the start position. It also works with all browsers, so there are no compatibility issues, and it does not need to use the swfobject.
