Problem with lightbox-script in IE

42 replies [Last post]

Hej!

I have a problem with ...Hej!

I have a problem with the Player which only occurs in IE. In firefox there is no problem.
If I load the page in IE there is only an error message saying it can't load the page and IE shows no page.
In my search for the reason of this problem I detect a connection with the use of the lightbox-script for showing pictures on the page.
In pages, where I don't use the lightbox-scripts, the player works also in IE.
But If I use both scripts in one page, the page will not be loaded.

In the header of my page I use the following javascript-tags:

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://eurochamps.de/screen/jw_player/swfobject.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="/fotos/js/prototype.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="/fotos/js/scriptaculous.js?load=effects,builder"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="/fotos/js/lightbox.js"></script>

The last 3 tags call scripts for the lightbox. If I clear these, there is no problem in IE and the player works.

Does anybody know this problem and how to fix it?
How do you use both JW media player and lightbox in one page without any problems?

No problem with lightbox and the image rotator or the media player.

A test page is here: http://willswonders.myip.org:8085/php/SWFObject%20InnerHTML-6.html

Hej kLink!

You're right!!!
In your case with lightbox v2.03.3 it works, but I used in my case lightbox v2.04.
I tested it on my page with the older version and it works now. With lightbox v2.04 it doesn't.
But I don't know, why (not)?

Thank you, kLink. You sparked off the idea with the version.

Hello,

I had the same problem with version 2.04, and found the solution here:
http://www.huddletogether.com/forum/comments.php?DiscussionID=2705&page=1#Item_0

The trick is to put the 3 lightbox scripts just before the </body> of your page in stead of in the header:

<script type="text/javascript" src="js/prototype.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="js/scriptaculous.js?load=effects,builder"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="js/lightbox.js"></script>

</body>
</html>

this work. thanks very much

LOL...I had the same problem!! and luckily Jasper commented his fix. It seems like it has helped a lot of people so far. Was searching for this bug for a while and there aren't many posts that solved it!

Anyone know how to get this working in DotNetNuke?

Thank you Jasper....

Thank you Jasper

@alex: For me it only worked when I put ONLY the

<script type="text/javascript" src="js/lightbox.js"></script>

at the bottom of my pages. when I put all 3 scripts there, lightbox did not load at all. So I've left the other two in the <head>.

Thanx Jasper!!!

THX !!!!! works great.. i dont understand it, but it works :-) that's enough for me ;-)

Jasper, you seriously are some kind of GENIUS - I am new to it all but thought scripts had to be called in the header - your fix also makes the page load incredibly FASTER.
Thank you. Alex

So I tried what Jasper said and it didn't work. I am using Dreamweaver CS4 and when I try it in IE8 and IE9 it just bring up the pic in another site. I can't get it to work right. I have tried about 6 different things to get it to work. The code works fine in Chrome and FF3 but it won't work in IE. It will work for other websites that have it programed in, but it won't work for me which makes me think that it's my coding that is wrong.

@Kevin - Provide a link, please.

Can someone please help me im having the same problem as kevin.

please check my link

@Starr

i took a peek at your link and notice that you have the following in the wrong place

<script type="text/javascript" src="js/prototype.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="js/scriptaculous.js?load=effects,builder"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="js/lightbox.js"></script>
<link rel="stylesheet" href="css/lightbox.css" type="text/css" media="screen" />

They appear to be not declared in the head element in fact the above is declared somewhere between the </head> and <body>

almost like in "la la land"

I wonder if you correct this that it may solve your issue.

More importantly, the link you provided has in excess of 105 errors
which IMHO should be addressed in the 1st place.

Check it out using the W3C validator.
