JW Player 4.4: Can I remove the new watermark?

97 replies [Last post]

I own a license and ...I own a license and I know you can download an unbranded/unwatermarked swf file.

Though, since I usually need to translate the context menu items, I have to use the source code to edit the strings. The brand logo/watermark is included there, however.

Am I allowed to remove the brand logo/watermark from the source code in order to get a translated "licensed version" swf file? I do know how to remove it, but I just want to know if it's okay for a licensed user.

Thanks.
Daniel

Hi Daniel. Yes, it's okay to use the source code to remove the watermark yourself if you're a licensed user.

As a licensed user, is there a variable to configure to disable the watermark?

We do not want our visitors getting distracted, nor are we accustomed to modifying the source.

If you want to remove the logo, first buy a license:
https://www.longtailvideo.com/players/order

Then download your licensed unbranded player here:
http://www.longtailvideo.com/players/jw-flv-player/commercial-license/

Note: you'll need your email and license number to download the licensed player. If you can't remember your license number, contact us here:
http://www.longtailvideo.com/support/contact-us

What about for non-profit and educational users? We've been told that we don't need to purchase a license for use in non-profit organizations.

I also work for a non-profit (school district). Do I need to purchase a license to remove the watermark?

Same question here as Dave & Robert. We're a college using the FLV player for streaming video, and would like to remove the watermark from the 4.4 and later player. Not a problem of wanting to eliminate attribution (right-click, etc is perfectly fine!), just don't want the logo showing over our videos.

If we need to buy a license, will it also apply to the upcoming 5.0 series players? Since the 4.x line is near end of development with 4.5 according to the roadmap...

@Dave - you don't need to purchase a license for the non-profit. But if you'd like an unbranded version, pls buy a license.

@Robert - same answer as above

@jwyatt - current license is good for all 4.x players, though we typically grant free upgrades to the next level.

yea me too, its annoying.

For me too...it's annoying...and 39 Euro are not cheap for a student.....if there are special student prices to get an unbranded version..... but 39 euro are so much money for a poor student with a private website...

Just use the version prior to the branding?

Yeah, but i also want the bug fixes and so on...

@Mike/Josh - We do offer student discounts on occasion. Please contact us: http://www.longtailvideo.com/support/contact-us from a valid university email and we will give you the discount code.

Is it possible to displya informations about clip onMouseOver event?

Thks.

@Yac -

Could you be more specific? Where do you want to display the mouse event information?

I just went to download it and saw the watermark -I have a license and found it quite annoying as I had to look up this thread and go through endless posts just to find out how to get an unwatermarked copy.

I wish you guys had contacted us via email about the new place - would have saved me much time. Well I got my unwatermarked copy - so I guess I'm happy now, but still in future please make it really obvious so that commercial users can skip over the regular enter email etc link.

:)

@Urghh - sorry for the inconvenience. We've provided a link on the main FLV download page, but will work to make it more prominent in the future.

This setup also makes it hard for licensed users to use latest player in trunk as it has the water mark. Is it possible to have the page that we log into offer the latest and greatest as well as the last release?

So I'm a licensed user and I want to edit the code for various purposes, how will I get latest trunk code or other codes without watermark?

Currently the trunk contains the watermark, so you must remove this yourself, however we may alter this in the future. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Alright, Adam, sorry for inconvenience as well, I realised that just a few minutes after I posted.

the watermark is a bad idea for commercial and non/commercial users, thats what the folks here are trying to tell you...

If you are a non commercial user, is it OK to remove the watermark by altering the source-code?

The watermark competes about the visual space with a plugin that I'm creating and I think that the watermark draws too much attention from the video content.

I would be more than happy to credit longtailvideo on a more discreet place.

@Jonas - Sorry, but if you do not buy a licnese you cannot remove the watermark.

We have a license. How do we remove the watermark from the source?

@shan - Please contact us directly w/ your license number and a member of our support team will get back to you:

http://www.longtailvideo.com/support/contact-us

Id also like a "non-branded" version as I have a license but do not know how to remove the watermark and do not have Flash to modify the fla. Are you going to remove the watermark in the current 4.5 player?

@Mark Robertson - If you have your license #, you can download the non-branded version here:
http://www.longtailvideo.com/players/jw-flv-player/commercial-license/

Remove the right click contextual "about JW Player" menu from a commercial license?

Hi,

This is Ethan from LongTail here to help you.

What is your license number?

Please email me directly at ethan [at] longtailvideo [dot] com to follow up if you have any other questions, thank you.

Best Regards,
-Ethan

Hi,

I'm a commercial licence holder, have downloaded the commercian version, but when a video plays, the player logo appears for a couple of seconds and then fades...

How would I go about removing this from the FLA. My Flash skills are somewhat lacking...

Hello,

I was wondering the same thing as Matt. Seems like the other posts are a little older, so I wasn't sure if they were talking about the same branding. If I purchase a license will the player lose the logo? Thanks.

Matt, using your license credentials, you can download an unbranded player on this link: http://www.longtailvideo.com/players/jw-flv-player/commercial-license/

I really wish you guys hadn't gone down this watermark route. So much for open source.

[lease cancel jwplayer7

James, if more people honored our license agreement, then we would not have had to introduce the watermark.

I come across about 100 commercial websites each day using our player and only 1% are using it legally (by having purchased a license).

sorry but this watermark is absolut bullshit! i ll use another player in future because of this! this watermark will not help to sell more licences to commercial websites in any way but it will help to lose many people! very very bad way longtail team!

Paris, may I ask what player you are using?

Keep in mind, if you purchase a license for the player you get to download an unbranded player without the watermark.

Our closest competitor, Flowplayer, also includes a watermark for the non-paying version.

I keep reading that the watermark is removed from the licensed versions of the Player. If I wish to use both the Image Rotator plus the Player can you assure me that I will not get the brief logo and/or watermarks in both programmes? I'm happy to purchase a license on the basis I don't have the annoying branding distractions, but I'm a little nervous given some of the feedback. Thanks

I have a licensed player but the branding is still on the contextual menu. How can I remove this?

@ murrayc: if you purchase a license for the Image Rotator and the JW Player, you can get an unbranded version. If you run into any problems at all w/ this, you can send an email to Darjan on our customer service team (darjan [at] longtailvideo [dot]com).

@xdrone: happy to help out here. Send an email to ethan (ethan [at] longtailvideo [dot] com). Please make sure to include your license # and URL in the email. He will provide you w/ instructions on how to remove.

Thx

i'm looking for a licensed player that will be:

1 Hosted and played at my domain
2 can be embedded as widget on other sites to play my videos
3 videos and player will be hosted on my domain

Is it possible with your player??
thanks
Harry

Hello Harry,

Yes that is possible with our player.

Best,

Darjan

this added a bunch of JW advertising on my blog itself - OK, I understand you guys want to make money, but I'm going to have to "pull the plug" here

how i can do my own watermark on my video???

gime me tag

The flashvar for the player is called logo.

too bad.. because i used to love and recommend longtail software: now all i have are bad comments and sadness.

i will have to "pull the plug" here too.

Gonzalo,

Why must you "pull the plug"?

Best,
-Ethan

People that wants to pull the plug can't afford to buy a commercial license.

Look around this player present a small watermark logo for less than 3 secs. While others will add a permanent watermark, and others will add a link.

I paid for my license and I don't regret it. Why? Various reasons.

1) Paid customers like me help to continue the development of the application. So freebie loves can continue to use for free.

2) This is a great tool and the developers needs to eat.

3) Open source is not give me and F your self. Go read what open source means then QQ about a small watermark.

for this and many other reasons. I am happy that they added the watermark.

For the project and for the watermark. Good Job Longtail!

Amen Paying Customer!!!!!

I agree with Paying Customer, I can't imagine how much time went into creating a stable flash player that works well on all platforms, so as soon as I checked the JW player on my website works on IE and all other browsers, I'm going to purchase the license. Not that expensive really and Flowplayer gave me a lot of shit in IE specifically.

Maybe you could introduce an unlimited licence for non-profit sites that want to remove the watermark? I run a few fansites for soap stars as a hobby but can't afford €99 (which is more than it costs me to run my sites for two years!) as I'm on a low income and my members do find the watermark distracting.

@Wondering - email me at Ethan [at] LongTailVideo [dot] com, thanks.

Are you a registered non-profit?

Hi - is it acceptable under your non-commercial license to *move* (not remove) the watermark on image rotator? [edit: Sorry, I've just realized this thread is specifically for JW Player, as opposed to the image rotator. I can't remove this post and post elsewhere - sorry again.]

I'm setting up a website for my school (non-fee paying high school in the UK) and our badge overhangs the area where the logo displays, partially obscuring it.

(Reason: It's based on the design of our VLE, so the badge needs to be in that location, and because it's got a alpha shadow, it gives a really nice 3d effect, which I'd hate to lose.)

If we could move it to one of the other corners then (1) it would look much better, and (2) it would keep true to your non-commercial licensing conditions.

You could move it, as long as it is not removed.

We bought a license, how do we remove the watermark? Tell me exactly how this is done...

I have the "unbranded" player downloaded and working. But as a video starts it displayed a watermark for a short period in the lower left hand corner.

How can I remove that?

And yes, I downloaded the unbranded player from the link above.

James, clear your cache and make sure you have uploaded the licensed player to the right location. It shouldn't have the logo.

I'm using Wordpress and have installed the NGGallery plugi-in. I have the sidebar slideshow widget enabled. I'd like to remove the jwplayer logo if possible. In reading the info on the site, I can't tell if buying a commercial license will accomplish this or not. The plugin uses JW Image Rotator 3.17 to display it's content.

Q1: What can I do to remove the logo?
Q2: If I need to purchase a commercial license, will I have to re-compile anything or will I be able to download a fully functional version that I can just upload to my site?

Thanks for any clarification you can provide!

~jeff

1) You need a license to remove the logo.
2) You won't have to re-compile anything, you will get a download of a version without the logo.

I noticed when we play video in free player.
In status bar it show " http://plugin.longtailvideo.com/....."
can you please tell me what is this..?
Is player send statics..?

And please tell what will happen if i remove watermark using source code and use on my website..?
Without buying licence.
Plz tell me.
Thnanks

JazzyB,

You may not remove the watermark without buying a license.

Regarding your issue with plugins.longtailvideo.com, you are probably using the Viral player, which includes the Viral plugin. Un-check the Viral checkbox when downloading the player, to remove this.

Best,
-Ethan

Hi,
Thanks for reply.
Can you provide license for only remove watermark at cheap rate...?
Because €59 is too much for me.
Please.

If you email sales [at] longtailvideo [dot] com, I am sure they can help you out with a discount.

Last question..
I have a site with advertising.
Can I use free jwplayer on my site.

You know that your site has advertising.

Advertising = a commercial site.

Which means, you must purchase a license.

Hi team, I'm responsible for maintaining government web site. Of course the site is non profit, is it appropriate to use jw player open source version in the site?

Hi Peter,

Yes, you can continue to use the non-commerical version of the player on your site.

Best,
-Ethan

You guys have made a huge mistake by putting the watermark on your simple imagerotator. Bad bad business practices. I might have considered buying your player and other products, but now you can forget it. I'm sure lots of other people feel the same way too. Plus there's tons of websites using your earlier version of the non-watermarked swf file out there. How is that fair?

This is the beginning of the end for you in this competitive, open source environment. Mend your ways or you will go under. People are already emailing NextGen and telling them to stop using your rotator.

@Mike – We appreciate your feedback. Our players are completely open source for anyone to download and modify as they see fit. The watermark is the way we receive attribution for the hard work we put into our products.

We believe that giving away our players and source for free is a very open policy. Branding can easily be customized by purchasing a license – a decision we leave to the user.

What about remove watermark try to use VidCrop. It's prog for crop video )It's helps me alot.)

Hi Mark,

Cropping the source video with a program won't remove the watermark from the player. The only way to remove the watermark (The JW Logo) from the player would be to buy the license, because it will give you a licensed version, without the watermark.

Best,
-Ethan

I purchased the commercial version for 59 euros to get rid of the watermark, and it takes the watermark off of Firefox, but not IE.

http://www.newstaging.info

Please advise.

Hi Deb,

I see no watermark in IE as well as Firefox. Make sure you clear your cache.

Best,
-Ethan

Okay, I must be honest. I really want to use JWPlayer on my website, it's just the branding is rather annoying. I am considering buying a licence, now what would be the deal here? We are developing a free open-source FPS shooter, and would like to allow our players to upload their frag videos to the website etc. We are completely not-for-profit, and all of our source code and assets are completely GPL.

Would there be any sort of discount deal here or anything?

Cheers,
Dave

@DeveloperDave - Please contact sales [at] longtailvideo [dot] com about this, thank you.

Thanks! Will do =]

Np! :)

I just purchased a licensed version of the JWPlayer to be able to display video without the initial logo. I'm using Joomlaworks allvideo plugin and have replaced the player (in the "Player" subdirectory of the Allvideos dir) with the supposedly unbranded, licensed version. But the logo is still there ..... What to do? This was the whole point of buying a license, and it does not seem to work.

Cheers
Rolf

Can you provide a link to where you are running this?

Sure - the URL is:

http://www.rolflunheim.net/

Click the "Video library" in the right hand menu.

Greetings from Oslo, Norway

@Rolf - http://www.rolflunheim.net/plugins/content/jw_allvideos/includes/players/mediaplayer/player.swf is where your player is loading from (unlicensed)

You need to replace this player with the licensed .swf file

Thanks - that worked!

Great, np! :)

Can I remove the water mark from the videos on my website?

@Paul - Yes, with the licensed player.

I purchased the lic version of the player. I am using Wordpress with the JW Player plug-in. I am seeing the watermark, where do I put the licensed version files in wordpress to avoid the JW watermark?

Regards
Steve

You just need to download the licensed player from - http://www.longtailvideo.com/order/view, and then upload the new swf to your site, replacing the one that came with the plugin.

hi if i am offering you a very nice skin with controlbar transparent even on the bottom of the player(very much like flowplayer) and you can sell it would you consider offering me a license??? this is my email adress:
ancasexy22@yahoo.com

@radu - contact sales [at] longtailvideo [dot] com about your custom skin, thanks.

lol - poor customer support, they have to answer the SAME question over and over and over again without going all hulk crazy at all you tards who can't read this whole thread - b.c your answers are given over and over. I plan on purchasing the jwplayer, it is fantastic (especially with all it's options and I didn't have to write a ton of code) and allows us to host our own videos outside of youtube, so the price of the player is by far cheaper than having me spend hours or days developing the same thing. Thank you LTV.

Right now, the zip file is showing as corrupt from the order/view page -
•JW Player for Flash v5.3 - [ Download ] link. (previous version are working fine.)

Would this link be the same as the main download from: http://www.longtailvideo.com/players/jw-flv-player/commercial-license/ ?

@julieL - http://www.longtailvideo.com/players/jw-flv-player/commercial-license/ re-directs to - http://www.longtailvideo.com/order/view/, the zip should not be corrupt, can you please check again?

I was able to download 5.3 from the link this morning, so that seems to be cleared up.

However, as an FYI, http://www.longtailvideo.com/players/jw-flv-player/commercial-license/ Does NOT forward to the view page. It currently shows a big Download Now button for what I'm assuming is actually the non-licensed version. Only place that goes to the order/view page is a link about half-way down on the right hand side of the page. In terms of the content of this forum, it's confusing. Might be part of the reason you're getting so many repeats of the same question.

Thanks, you are right. We will fix that.
