Good morning,
I would know if the website below is considered needing a license: http://www.regione.piemonte.it/parchi/ppweb/video/index.htm. That website gives info about video, movie, documentary which are made by other people, is not a commercial website.
thank you for your support

Do non-profit websites fall under the category of commercial website?

Reply

Chris,

Non-profit websites do not fall under the category of commercial website.

Instead, if that is the case, you will be using the player under the Creative Commons license.

I need to use JW Player for an employee training website. Does that fall under the category of commercial website?

I would like to use this player on a website i made for a small local band. The website is not owned by a corporaton and doesn't contain any advertisements. The band is not signed and never will be signed to a record label, they are a small marching flute band that play at special events only and make/charge no money. The website is not yet online and exists purely to provide followers of the band with videos and images of the parades they attended, provide information on the band and to advertise future parades they will be attending.

As above, the site is not yet online but i do have a link for another, similar band you can use to evaluate my situation.

Norin,

If you are a corporation, which it sounds like taking into consideration that you will be using the player to train employees, then you must purchase a license.

Best,

Darjan

Reply

William,

You do not need to purchase a license. The usage of the player on your website would fall into the following category: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/

Hello,

I'm building a website. The website is for one restaurant. I want to use the image rotator to rotate some images of the restaurant as a part of the design of the website. Do I have to purchase a license?

Best Regards

Reply

Hi Ventsi,

Since the website is promoting the restaurant, this would be considered a commercial endeavor, which you would need a license for.

I created a script that uploads and plays videos. I decided I like your player the best and want to suggest to those who purchase my script to use your player in the script. I think yours plays best. Do I need some sort of permission or license from you to suggest using your player & player_viral in my script. And can I add a link in the instructions to your site to get this player?

I would like to inform if I would neeld a commercial license or not. We are creating a website to instruct teachers of children with a mental dissability to use several free and commercial programs in making communicational aides (such as a shedule, a communication board, ...).

The goal is to not promote any of the programs, but offer diverse ways of obtaining the same aide using a program you are familiar with. We will be distributing this freely on DVD

kind regards,

Bart

Hi, www.tntimisoara.com is website of Timisoara National Theater from Timisoara, Romania; the website has a local audience and contain information about current & past productions in the field of theater performance - is not a commercial website and exists to provide followers of the theater with videos and images of the theater/drama plays.

I would like to use JW Player and Image Rotator on their website - but if I decide to use, the theater must purchase a commercial license or not?

A general question about interpreting your small "license article" on the right on this page here (and others):

Why Buy a License?

Why Buy a License? If you don’t buy a commercial license, you cannot use a JW Player™ on (i) a site that has ads; (ii) a corporate site; or a (iii) CMS. Our licenses are very inexpensive, so what are you waiting for? Buy a license today.

Does this mean, that anyone - even non-commercials - has to buy a license, only because they are using a CMS (iii) (Content Management System) for the homepage?
Or ist this a misinterpreting...?
Also see "diskussion" in http://www1.longtailvideo.com/support/forum/Setup-Problems/19170/Hide-JwPlayer-Logo#msg138326

Thanks and best regards.

After searching this forum:
I think, this posting
http://www1.longtailvideo.com/support/forum/Licensing-Questions/13897/University-CMS-use-license-inq...
(and follow ups) gives the answer.
No need for buying a license, if
you only use a CMS for a homepage.
Need to buy a license, if you build/sell/distribute
a CMS with a "built-in"-jwplayer.
So, therefore the small "license article" on the right on this page here. leads to misunderstanding
in point (iii). Perhaps adding in (iii) CMS you distribute or something similar would help...
By the way - really nice player, and it's worth licensing...
Thanks and best regards.

Hello,

My name is Joseph and I oversee the development of lecture video production for our online programs at Belhaven University. We're interested in using your JW player for the streaming of our pre-recorded lecture videos via our secured website. Our online students simply login each week to watch their course's pre recorded video lectures.

We are a non profit Christian University and any usage would be for educational purposes only. Do we need a license?

Would you mind responding to this question through my email please at jcameron@belhaven.edu

Thank you so much,
Joseph

We have included the image-rotator on an Episcopal Church site (currently http://68.169.32.71, until we go live with it perhaps later in the day).

What, (if anything), do we need to do to remove the watermark? We would be happy to credit the creators in some other way, (such as including text), but would rellay like to remove the watermark.

Thanks

I wonder if you could clarify for me some concerns over licensing. The organisation is a charitable trust (non-profit-making) producing training videos. However they hope to generate revenue through a PPV streaming model. Does either the player of BOTR require licenses purchased in this instance?

Hi,
I'm developping a jQuery plugin which allows to easily create interactive quizz.
I'd like to let the users be able to build some questions using an audio file.
For example, the user should need to listen to a short audio extract before he can answer the question.
I immediatly thought about JWPlayer to embed the player that would play the audio files but since the jQuery plugin will be absolutely free and open-source, i'm wondering if i need to buy a license as i plan to distribute the player and it's javascript API along with my plugin.

Thanks for your answer, and most of all, thanks for your tremendous work !

You can use the free version of the player for this, as long as it is not modified, and the logo / right click remain intact, and go back to our site.

Reply

Hi Ethan,

I don't plan to modify the player since it perfectly does what i want it to do, so the logo and the right-click menu will remain intact :)

Thank you for your really fast answer, that's what i call an effective support forum !

Hi

We are developing a personal STB, set top box, that records some broadcasting tv programs.
We will sell it to users.
It contains web server, and we want to install JW player in it too.
The users access to their own STB with browser and watch the video with JW player.

Which licenses should I buy?

I'm looking to run videos on my website, part of an incorporated, not-for-profit, student-run campus newspaper. We subsist mostly based on ads (printing costs quite a bit!), and I was hoping to run ads in front of certain videos.

Should we be using the noncommercial version, or paying for the commercial version? Since we're a registered non-profit, I figured I'd ask. Thanks!

Hi everyone
as it's a total mess (at least in my head) about lincencing fees and royalties for using H264...
Here's my question: As I like your player and globaly know how to use it, i'd like to buy a licence so I can use it for a kind of paying VOD website providing H264 encoded feature films. Which means someone would have to pay royalties to mpeg LA, but I'm totaly unable to guess who.
Does paying the jw commercial licence mean that it's alright then on my side and I would't have to do anything special but using the player ?
I'm really confused, WebM doesn't seem to be ok for the flash plugin and overall it's picture quality is not so good as H264 at low bitrates, wich I obliged to deal with.

HELP !!!

@Nick - You can use the free version.
