Educational institutions - definitive answer?

8 replies [Last post]

Hi,

I've been searching the licensing forum for a clear answer on the license question for private schools/colleges/universities. Unfortunately, the 2 or 3 questions I found were never answered. I made the subject line of this question clear so that hopefully, once answered, others will easily find this and get a clear yes/no. :)

Are public schools, colleges and university free to use the player without licensing when used for educational purposes? If so, is use in promotion of the school or recruiting also exempt or would that use trigger the need for a license?

Thanks!

I'd like an answer to this one too! :D

Same here,
Need to know the answer to this question.

Here's the official definitive answer - registered non-profit (public or private) education institutions do not need a license, HOWEVER, if you use the player without a license you CANNOT remove any JW branding or attribution. Hope that clears things up.

Thanks! :D

Hi,

Thanks Adam for your answer.

I work for a non-profit educational institution, and I would like to include an unbranded version of the JW player on CDs of study material I sent to students which include Flash video.

Can you please confirm this is allowed and what sort of license I would need to purchase to do this?

Thanks

@Chris Porter - pls contact me directly w/ the number of CDs you'll be using and we can discuss a price.

Is there a discounted rate for educational institutions for the licensing?

Please email me directly at ethan [at] longtailvideo [dot] com about the license, thank you.
