Hi,

I got a license for a domain but that domain did not go live, and I want to change the license from that domain name to a site that needs a license and is going to go live soon? So, is that possible?

Thanks,
Turki

Turk,

According to our License Agreement, you can't transfer a license to another domain. May I ask when you purchased your initial license? If you purchased it just recently, I can change it for you this time.

Sadly Darjan on (October 17th, 2010) for a site that was supposed to go live at that time but it did not (elhamat.com) which was never used. Now, I need a JWPlayer license for another site?

Thanks for your fast replay and support,
Turk

Turk,

Yes you would need a new license for your new domain. October 17th, 2010 was a very long time ago. If you email us to sales ]at[ longtailvideodotcom I can provide you with a 50% discount code since you already have one license.

In your buying form it is said that the license is for 1 website, not domain... I would like to but JW Player, but now I don't know if I should...

Why do I have to pay for something I have already paid? When you say that the player can be used on 1 domain it doesn't mean that it should be useless when this domain went to hell. Why can't it be switched?

It's me who paid for this player, not a domain... It should be licensed to me, not a domain...

Do I have to pay for another PHOTOSHOP every time I change PC? NO!!!

Please answer!

@Charles - You need a license for each top-level domain. Subdomains are included.

@Customer- You're correct in your assumption that Adobe doesn't issue licenses per PC for Photoshop. Instead, they issue licenses per # of users. What we do is that we issue license per # of domains. This means that multiple people can use the license as long as the JW Player resides on the same domain. For example, if you have two websites you need two licenses. This is why you can't purchase one license and use the player on fifty domains or transfer it from domain to domain.

A use-case in Adobe's scenario would be that if the CEO of a company purchases a Photoshop license for company A.com, he or she can't use the existing license for company B.com.

Pegaso,

Will you be the owner of all domains/websites?

What I recommend for you to do is to register your two existing domains and when you're ready to launch your other sites, email us and we'll update your license accordingly with the new domains.

I have a similar issue to the original post in this thread - we've purchased a licence but having installed it on our test server can now not get the licensed version to run on the live site. As we only purchased this in the past couple of weeks are we able to have it transferred / reset?

Look forward to your response

I was looking forward to removing the watermark, but now have discovered all this business about the domain license.

Does the player call home every time it's played? What happens if JW Players license checking servers are down and the license fails to validate, does the video not play for the user? What is the uptime of JW's license servers then, if I may ask? And what information is collected? Is any information about the video content sent back to Longtail? Do customers have access or visibility of the data you collect about their use of the player?

Also, the comparison with Photoshop used in company A and then company B is not an accurate analogy. It's more like the CEO of company A needs to find another building to operate company A from. The same staff will be employed, just different building. Old building destroyed. "Let's take our JW Player over to the new building. Wait, JW are asking for more money ...".

An individual who wishes to hide the JW watermark on 3 of his hobby non-profit art websites, is by no means equal to a "CEO buying Photoshop for company A". I don't see any companies around my untidy house! Only broken furniture and some PCs.

How about a deal where I pay $50 for a 10 pack of domains, because I'm not a CEO and never will be, and my sites have less yearly traffic than this thread in one week? Fair?

Paul5000,

There's no authorization going on. A license is only required for legal purposes. The licensed player doesn't call home or anything else along those lines.

We currently have a deal where we sell 10-pack for $139 USD. This is discounted at 84% compared to purchasing single site licenses for $89 each. If you send us an email to sales ]at[ longtailvideo dot com I can provide you with a discount that provides a further 30% off as a gesture of goodwill.

Thanks for clarifying.

Because the watermark appears over the video as it starts, it's an intrusion. I don't care about the right-click menu credit, but the watermark does impact on the content if say the opening scene is black with sound, or subtle visual elements.

I like JW Player and want to support it, but at the right price relative to my use of it. On rare occasions I've installed the free version for friends as a favor, indy artists with no clue about web dev for their portfolios etc, but I don't charge because they have no money anyway, and it's not my day job. They do ask me if I can remove the watermark and I say no sorry.

But now with your good offer, I can buy the 10 pack and offer them the removal for $10 which they will be fine with, and everyone is legal. Thanks, I will email you!
