Not-for-profit website use

Hi

If I were to use this player on a non-profit charity website (with no adverts) do I still need to purchase a licence?
If I would like the Facebook Share module in addition would I need to order/pay for that separately and it would still work with the free version?

Thanks

Tara,

You can use the free non-commercial version of the player for a non-profit charity website.

Martin,

If you have any type of ads on your website, for example Google AdSense, then you must purchase a license to legally run the player on your website.

We have licensed JwPlayer for non-profit organization. But I don't have any idea how to download add-on s for non-commercial use. for ex: google analytics pro plugin.

Thanks,
Jacob

Jacob,

See this link: http://www.longtailvideo.com/support/jw-player/41/implementing-plugins

Note: Plugins aren't downloaded. You activate them in the player's flashvars.

Darjan,

I work for a non-profit organization which also has a bible college. We stream live events from the school, and on the schools website we have media for people to view. We are using JW Player all the way.

Considering we are Education and Non-Profit, do we need to buy JW Player Pro? I notice some plugins require JW Player Pro to work, how do we "get around" it if we'd like to purchase a plugin but don't have JW Player Pro?

Also, in the long run we would like to try and run ads to help raise money to keep our site going. As you all know streaming events live etc can become expensive, and keeping the site running and making it able to 'pay for itself' so to speak, would that require us to purchase a commercial license?

Thank you for your time.

Darren,

The only types of plugins that require a licensed (PRO) version of the JW Player are the advertising related ones. This is because you would be making money off of your website and would need a commercial license. If you're a registered non-profit organization, you don't need a license for the player. However, if you'd like to remove the JW Watermark, you still need one. We typically offer 50% discount to non-profits and to educational institutions. If you email us at sales ]at[ longtailvideodotcom we can provide you with the code.

Darjan,

Thank you for the information. Much appreciated!

We are a registered non-profit. So that's not a problem.

Thank you so much!

Can I use the free version to post a video portfolio on the site? Nor any advertising on the site not only information about the company and services.

Reply

Anton,

The purpose of a portfolio website is to showcase your work, which in turn is a commercial endeavor-- unless you do work for free. So a license is needed in this case. For example, if a music band started using our player to showcase their music videos they would need a license since they're making money indirectly by promoting their work through record sales etc.

Hi!

I'm making a web video for a client, has no ads and does not sell anything. Just to view and download the videos themselves without money. I need a license?

Thank you for your time.

Adrian,

Are you charging your client for the work? If yes, then you need a license.

as a non profit 501c public television station can we use the free JW Player on a website. but wait... and then air the website which is a 1024 by 768 JW Player with FLV's?

B2,

As a non profit organization, you don't need a license for the player.

OK, we're a 501c3 non-profit but we sell ads, and may do so in the player. We're a newspaper, we also sell subscriptions, but are partially grant-funded as well. (Education Week)

We would probably want to remove the watermark anyway, and since we have ads, we would need to buy a pro license.

I saw something about a non-profit 50% discount. Would one player license work for us? It also looks like one per domain, which might affect us later, but not currently.

Thanks!

I saw this commercial website,
http://www.thetutorthailand.com/portal/home/ ,
using your "JW Player" for its video clips.
I also noticed the "JW Player" watermark on those clips,
which means that they use the free version. Right?

BTW, I would like to inform you that their business
is to sell on-line video clips about math and other subjects
for high school students.

Paul,

Send an email to sales ]at[ longtailvideodotcom from your non profit email and we'll send you the 50% discount code.

Indeed, the website you found is using the player illegally. We'll look into this.

We have a non-profit, incorporated in Florida. If we send the name, it can be verified at the State level we could include the State website, or is it better to just send a copy of our certified registration?

I'd be interested in the 50% off certificate.

We will be setting up the website in the first half of March.

Also, how many websites can it be used on?

Please send your response to: ellen20@earthlink.net

Ellen,

It can be used on one website. It should be the website the non-profit organization is responsible for.

To verify your status, I need you to send us an email from the non-profit organization's ending domain name. You won't be able to use the discount code with an @earthlink.net address.

Can you follow up with this inquiry to sales ]at[ longtailvideodotcom

Best,

Darjan
