User Interaction: Flv or MP4

6 replies [Last post]

Hello,
Can you add an option to choose the low definition (flv) or the high definition (.mp4)
as a buttons in the media player so the user to choose the flv instead of mp4 if he
has a slow machine ? (A better idea is to detect if the machine if it's fast enough
to play .mp4 files but i don't think that possible ...)

Thank you

A better idea is to detect if the machine if it's fast enough to play .mp4 files but i don't think that possible...

something like that is already there in v.3.14 - from the page: http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?item=Supported_Flashvars

fallback (url): Only for the mediaplayer. If you play an MP4 file, set here the location of an FLV fallback. It'll automatically be picked by older flash players (example: http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?page=wizard&example=17).

Yes, but if the user has the latest flash player on his old PC it will play the .mp4 and that's the problem!
In order to solve this problem is to have 2 buttons (like the "Play" inside the Video) the it would tell him to choose something like below:

"Low Definition" "High Definition"
(Requires at least Pentium 4)

Because i saw that Pentium 4 can play .mp4 files without lagging while Celeron or Pentium III machines lag a lot while playing. (Even if the whole clip is downloaded and i'm not talking about full screen which requires at least Core2Duo)

Thank you

you can use the javascript api and load the low/high res video from links or buttons outside of the player or on a css overlay

it would be better media player to do this using flashvars rather to put an external css overlay or javascript.

Hi, it looks complicated, why don't you just using converter to convert between mp4 and flv. I use iWisoft Free Video Converter, it almost supports any conversion between two video formats. I trust this freeware.
