Impossible to upload short videos?

I am currently uploading some videos to use in an educational homepage. When I upload all short files (that is 2 - 5 sec) fails, due to incorrect format, where as all longer videos uploades without any problems.
The long and short videos have the same settings and are exported from the same timeline in Premiere pro, so the "format" should be exactly the same.

Is it not possible to use Bits on the run with short videos - or is there an other problem?

There are some users that upload thousands of really small files without any issue, so there must be some issue in how they are produced.

It might be possible that you chop up the video track without encoding again, this can cause issues if you upload a segment that is in between keyframes, so I would recommend that you look there.

Remco, thanks for your answer. There are no issues with the videos themselves. They work perfectly locally on the computer, and also when uploaded to ordinary players on the homepage. So - there must, in my opinion, be something that is not working with the processing on Bits on the run.
The error message is:
"Please note that the conversion of this media file has failed (Unsupported format). Contact us if you think this is shouldn't happen"

Or - if not, howcome the videos work everywhere, but after being processed by the system here does not? This to me gives the impresion - and correct me if I am wrong - that the system cannot hadle this type of videos, shorter than 7 sec, for some reason. "Unsupported format seems like a strange explanation, since longer files with exactly the same format and rendering are passed and converted.

I am not chopping the videotrack, they are rendered seperatly after being edited. Also the issue is with the short videos (1 - 5 sec), the longer (longer than 7 sec) works.

Can you give me an example video key of a video that has this issue?

Without any up close information I can only give generic answers.

I definitly understand this - but I am not (sorry, since english is not my native tounge) sure what you mean with an example video key?

My main test file to test basic upload functionality (selected because it is extremely small) is 5 seconds long and works fine: http://content.bitsontherun.com/videos/R62uv29x-JfZZAKnO.flv

So I suspect that length is not the issue, but there is some issue somewhere in the manner that you encoded it. I will ask a developer to take a look at this, but I can't promise any miracles.

Also, the engineer who develops our encoder is on vacation until the end of the year, so it will take some time to get back to you on this I'm afraid.

Ok, thanks. I am sure he deserves the vaccation, so I guess I must wait. If I select all my files in order of length in the dashboard, it is obvious that there is an issue with the shorter video, all the shortest videos has the "failed" mark on them.

I have now tried different length on the same clip:
3 sec: Fails
5 sec: Fails
6 sec: OK
7 sec: OK
11 sec: OK

This is the same clip, different lenght.
I also shorted a videoclip from the same timeline and the same project, originally 8 sec long, which then uploaded correctly, to 4 sec. Guess what? It failed...

I would say there is something wrong here, regarding the processing of videos shorter than 6 sec, at least the format I use, which is a standard setting of PP.

Hope you can have a look into it, I really need to get theses files uploaded for a project...

I have now tried to upload in QT format - the same result, short videos fails . Please have an urgent look into this - it affects my work, not being able to uplaod these files! Otherwise I have to leave bitsontherun and use other ways of uploading.

I'm positive there is something in the way that your video is encoded that causes our encoder to trip over. I have run one of the failed videos through Handbrake and the video started process just fine. I would appreciate if you can hold off on deleting 6zNBjkOq for now, but as a workaround you could process the shorter videos through Handbrake or change your encoding settings around until you find something that works. Even a 1 sec video in your account that failed processed correctly after it had been processed through Handbrake.

So it is well possible that there is something in your videos that triggers a bug in our transcoder, but this does not happen for all short videos all the time.

Thanks. My use of QY instead of f4v was done to test different encoding settings, since they - I guess - encode differently.

However using .flv instead of .f4v makes difference - that testvideo (2 sec) processed correctly!

Hope you will be able to sort things out about what is causing this problem.
Thanks in advance,
Håkan
