Ajax error

I just signed up for the trial and uploaded a handful of videos. On my development Wordpress site I installed the Wordpress plugin (BTW, it was rather annoying and surprising that I couldn't copy and paste the API keys).

I seemed to get it set up correctly, but when I went into a post to test video embedding, under the search box in the Bits on the Run widget I saw this:

AJAX error: error

I was not able to search nor see the videos I'd uploaded and converted.

Is this because I'm on the trial or is it something else?

Thanks,

Vic

Hi Vic,

The issue with copying and pasting is because some browsers don't allow selecting the contents of read-only fields. At least for Chrome it helps to select around the text field and that way the content of the field can be selected.

With respect to the AJAX error, I think I remember this happen in cases when libcurl for PHP is not installed.

Thanks, I'll ask my server admin about libcurl.

Well heck, libcurl is installed (7.15.5).

While I have the free trial of bits on the run, I'm thinking this is something I want to move forward with on a subscription basis, but I need to see how it works. Should I sign up for premium support to get this figured out?

Thanks,

Vic

OK. I signed up for premium support - no help. You guys said I had a lot of plugins so it must be a conflict. So I disabled EVERY other plugin on the site and the error is still there.

I need this resolved or I can't use the software at its full potential.

Hi Vic, you have received an email from us too. In short: It looks like the proxy.php file in the plugin is not working correctly. Essentially there are two things that can possibly cause this:

1) We use one function that only exists in PHP 5.2. If your PHP version is older this will break.
2) We hardcode the location of your wp-config file. If in your configuration the config file is somewhere else this will break too. You might have to update this in the proxy.php file if this is the case.

I have just started getting the "AJAX error: error" message, the config file has not been moved and everything was working fine for a long time.

i don't know what 'curl' is but since the wp bitr plug has been working fine for a long while, it can't be 'curl. And I'm using laughing squid hosting who are pretty good with keeping everything on their side up to date.

Any suggestions that I could try?

thanks

If something broke, something must have changed, I'm afraid you will have to ask your hosting what they changed. Also, you might wish to check that you are running the latest version of the Bits on the Run plugin, since that doesn't link to the wp-config using a relative path anymore.

I had a botr plug folder called "bits-on-the-run" but I downloaded a new folder called "wordpress-botr-0.6" but it still is not working.

I have emailed my hosting company.

The old plug in was also listed as 0.6 even though the folder had a different name!

I have directed them to this thread as well.

OK I have got this reply back...

"Running scripts that have AJAX within them should not be an issue as the cloud is setup via a standard LAMP install. We have many customers with many different scripts that work just fine.

Please double check with the developer to see if they have any other suggestions that might point you in the right direction of getting your script working."

I am no longer getting the AJAX.error message. I am now just getting the upload window but no videos are showing. I tried putting the full code in a post to confirm that that works OK.

I am using Safari 5.0.6 and FF 3.6.22 on a PPC mac

We have tested this and it works absolutely correctly on a vanilla Wordpress installation.

Generally the root cause of the Ajax error is because one of the files within the plugin throws a 503 error that is caused by irregularities in your wordpress installation.

As I said, the AJAX.error message no longer shows. Here is a shot of what I now see http://i44.tinypic.com/33emwjp.jpg

I have checked the api and secret keys and they seem ok.

I'm running the acamas theme which is pretty basic.

Does this still look like a 503 error? Can you give me a clue as to where I would look that could cause the type of problem I now have, which is not seeing anything in the plug in.

Or do you think another plug in could possibly be the cause?

thanks

I'm not certain what you have been installing now.

If you downloaded the latest Bits on the Run wordpress module from http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bits-on-the-run/ you will get the bits-on-the-run folder name.

It is possibly best to make sure you have this, and only this installed. It might be possible that some other plugin is clashing, I'm not sure.

OK, strange about the name being different but it wasn't that. However I have found the problem.

It was a plug in that was causing the problem. The plug in that wouldn't play nicely with BOTR was....

hand me the envelope...

After The Deadline.

I'll let them know.

Which is kinda strange because apparently it's a highly recommended plug in. I'm surprised that no one has noticed.
