Deleting Templates and Streaming Behavior

Hello.

I have a few questions about templates and adaptive bit streaming behavior.

Goal: To delete a template.

Situation:
I have a 720px template with recommended settings. This is too blurry for my screen capture work.
I have a 800px template with settings towards quality. This is OK for screen capture work.
I have a 1024px with recommended settings. This is perfect for screen capture.

Now, I would like to delete either the 720 or the 800 as they are too close to each other in size and quality to merit increasing my platform usage.

Question (Warning: this may be a dumb question):

My players are generally 720 pixels wide. Do players prefer templates close to their own size or does bit rate switching always prefer the highest resolution a connection can handle, no matter what and completely irregardless of the player's size?

I just did a test and it appears that the 1024 template is the player that streams most of the time to my location using bit rate switching.

If so, this is good and it appears I would be safe deleting the 800px size as it has less resolution than the 1024 but with the same file size.

Best,

Ryan

Hi Ryan, in bitrate switching the largest template a player will select has a width of 150% of the player canvas. That means that if your player is 720 pixels wide, the widest template that will get picked will be 1080 pixels wide. So if the bandwidth is sufficient, the 1024px template should get picked fine.
