Looks fuzzy at native resolution?

We uploaded video at a decent resolution. Then provided it in two places: southern.edu/graduatestudies/Pages/graduatedegrees.aspx

and

southern.edu/graduatestudies/Pages/masters-degrees-at-southern-video.aspx

Why does the larger look fuzzy? Does Bits on the Run resample down? If I upload at the higher resolution will it successfully make the smaller one look okay?

I don't know a lot of details. I just want to know how it works so that we do it right in the future.

Hi Isaac, you force your video player on this page to not use adaptive streaming and to only use the 720 px conversion. For the first video in the playlist the 720 pixels wide conversion does not exist because your original was less then 720 pixels wide.

In that case the player will fall back to the conversion that is only 320 pixels wide.

In short there are a couple of things you can do:

  1. Use a bitrate switching player, in that case the player will try to use the best resolution video that exists for the screen size
  2. Make sure all originals for videos in the playlist are at least 720 pixels wide
  3. Force a lower resolution than 720 px

In any case, the easiest solution tends to be to simply use bitrate switching players.
