Search Results

I'm evaluating Bits On the Run for our site, but I am confused about how the search function works. I've tried searching for "Bits run" in the example on this site and it doesn't return any videos whereas I would have thought that any video with the description or title including "Bits On The Run" would have been included.

Am I missing a parameter, or is there a way to search for keyword (and) keyword?

Thanks!

Our API does not understand string searches surrounded with quotes but if I search for bits on the run without quotes I get the demo video as a result just fine.

Sorry, I was only using the quotes as a way to call attention to my search string - they weren't used within the search.

My point was if you search for (without quotes):

bits run

the demo video did not show up.

You mean on this page? http://www.longtailvideo.com/support/bits-on-the-run/15982/search-list-and-show-videos

If I enter that query there the demo video shows up (along with a couple of other videos that have a bitsontherun.com link set in their link metadata).

Hrmmmm. All I see is No results followed by a list of videos that seem to be the same for any failed result.

I tried searching for: big bunny

Again, "no results found" but the top five prove otherwise. Odd that the bits on the run introduction was still the first video. Big buck bunny was second and fifth.

So I guess we have different definitions for found, but I get what you are doing and we can live within it.

By the way, the service rocks. We were using amazon cloudfront to stream videos, but botr is much faster.

Oh, I see what you mean now. It looks like the example is rather basic. Searching for one word works, searching for multiple words doesn't work here. It is possible, as you can search for two words in the dashboard and the dashboard only uses the API too.

Tried from the dashboard - exhibits the same behavior.

I have 4 videos in my account. All of the videos have the description:

water fed pole

If I search for

water pole

I get zero results. However, if I search for

water fed

I get all of the videos. Is there no way to modify the search so we can do: where description contains 'water' and 'pole'?

Thanks.

Ah, so the search only matches strings, so multiple words work only if the string matches. I will ask if there is something we can do about this in the future.

It has been added to our list of open feature requests, but it is unknown for now if/when this will be implemented.

Consider website having large video repository with multiple playlist, single videos etc, and then if I want to search within particular playlist or across entire site can this be achieved ?

So, Can search be made specific to playlist or Global across video repository?

It is not possible to search within a channel I'm afraid. If you're using dynamic channels (based on tags) it is possible to filter on tags while searching, see the /videos/list call, which has tags and tags_mode parameters: http://developer.longtailvideo.com/botr/system-api/methods/videos/list.html
