rtmp streaming and specific video size

Previously Bitsontherun used to allow me to use rtmp and a specific video resolution. This was great as it allowed quality and security.

I get at least one complaint every two days from people about the "fuzziness" which is the automatic bitrate switching. When I check there speed its consistently high such as Download 35.32Mb/s Upload 5.42Mb/s.

How can i get my account set back to rtmp only and choose specific video resolutions to stream?

Ryan

This sounds more like an issue with the dynamic streaming. If that's resolved, your streaming works quite a bit better than when forcing a single bitrate. Do you have an example page, and some more info on when the videos are "fuzzy"? Is it in fullscreen or normal screen?

Hello Jeroen, I agree that it is an issue with dynamic streaming. There is a link here to some of the videos. Most are behind a paywall.

It makes sense that dynamic streaming would "work" better. However, I never got complaints when forcing a single bitrate.

When dynamic streaming was implements at the cost of rtmp, I choose to keep rtmp (the more secure way) and lose the specific bitrate. That is when I started receiving complaints.

Thanks for your help.

Hey Ryan, as a matter of fact this is a bug of which we investigated this week (and I think we fully comprehend what is the problem). It is very specific to screencasts because it can only happen with static content.

Because it is a player bug this is tracked publicly: http://developer.longtailvideo.com/trac/ticket/1455

Given how critical of a bug this is for a couple of our screencast customers, we will implement a patch with appropriate priority, even if it doesn't make it into our player release straight away.

Great. Can I confirm that this is now fixed for botr as stated in the ticket (http://developer.longtailvideo.com/trac/ticket/1455)?

The bug is fixed in the code, but it is not tested and released yet. We will include this in the player update that we plan to do for Bits on the Run by the end of the month.

Hello, can you confirm if this change is implemented now or not?

This isn't out yet, but is scheduled to be released soon.

Is there a URL where I can check status of this? I'm still getting complaints and we're past the deadline of the end of the month.

Ryan

Yes, we will mention this as part of our system updates:

Everything that impacts multiple users will be mentioned.

Note this fix is also part of the 5.8 JW Player.
