Has there been a change to HTTP with AWS?

Hi, we use AWS for content delivery.
Have AWS been changed to HTTP from RTMP .
The reason I ask, is I've just noticed that the transport bar indicates that a video is being downloaded. Also that we can't seek to parts of the video that haven't been downloaded yet. This isn't the way that RTMP used to work???? Or is it now pseudo streaming?

It's not a problem apart from one thing.
I would presume that AWS will charge us for the download of the whole file, which has implications for cost??

Can anyone clarify.

Many thanks.

Paul, can you give us your account key or name? Then we can look into this. We did make an update in that you can now use RTMP accounts to still stream HTTP with a specific setting. That might have been accidentally turned on for you.

Hi Jeroen, username is 'video'.
I actually don't mind having it done in a progressive download way.
As said my only concern is over streaming bandwidth. If AWS doesn't charge any more for delivery in this way, it's not a problem for me.

Let me know.

(By the way, it seems to have returned to RTMP now)??

Thanks

Yes, it is RTMP again. We went through the accounts and fixed the issue. Though AWS charges the same price per GB for HTTP/RTMP delivery, RTMP is better because:

*) Video is not prebuffered, so you don't spend GB's that people don't watch.
*) Seeking is much faster for long videos. I believe you have full movies in there, so RTMP is a requirement.

Hope this fixes the issue. Let me know if you have additional questions.

Hi Jeroen, thanks for looking into this.
Good to know it's back to RTMP.

Many thanks.

Jeroen,
I would like to get my AWS account setup. However, I was informed BOTR no longer integrates with AWS CloudFront. Is this accurate?

Yes indeed, we don't do this anymore. There were too many features (signing, pseudo-streaming, analytics) we cannot provide with third-party CloudFront distributions. At the same time, we are about to drop our prices to the same level as CloudFront, so there's not really a reason to use both services.

Hi Jeroen, that sound interesting re the prices. As long as we don't have to use >100000000tb per month to get the same value!!!

The great thing about AWS is that relatively small providers can also get a good deal on their streaming without having to use very large bandwidth every month. Hope this will be the case with your new pricing.

(..hope you're going to continue support for us who already use AWS in the meantime)

Paul.

Our new pricing will indeed be in the range of AWS.

We're going to continue support existing AWS customers, although we're probably giving you an offer too soon to move to all-BOTR at prices lower than AWS.

Hi Jeroen, we'll I can't argue with that!
(And it will make things simpler dealing with one company).

I Look forward to it.

Hi there, I have been using AWS with BOTR for the past several months.

My platform balance was depleted and when I re-charged it a few minutes ago - I no longer have an option to stream my videos from Amazon and I'm looking at a fee of $1.79/gb (!)

Can you please re-instate my amazon connection? I'm not excited about paying triple bandwidth charges.

Thanks, I love your service and we're about to expand in a big way, so please see what you can do.

Best,
Kory

That account is set up to use cloudfront. That means that you only need to buy platform usage balance and can leave delivery at 0

When do yo want to change prices? I just wanted to start use AWS, but didn't found the options to do so.

When will these prices become standard?

I am mostly concerned about when resellers will be able to take advantage of your new prices ( like joomlarulez.com )
Currently they are still stuck on the old pricing structure and that is just way too expensive. However, I am on joomla so my options are limited it seems.

I don't know when these rates will become standard yet, but it is very well possible that some resellers already have these, if not better rates if they bring enough volume to the table (I'm afraid I can't discuss individual resellers here).
