Hi,
whenever I try to playback mp4 files from a playlist the screen remains black and the video is not rendered but the duration of the clip is displayed correctly. Do I have to transform Apple iTunes RSS files into "playlist files" before usage?
Here is the RSS file:http://podcast.you-fm.de/robcast/podcast.xml
Direct link to a MP4 video file embedded in the aforementioned RSS: http://mp3.podcast.hr-online.de/hronline/mp3/podcast/robcast/rgms_KW21_wasmachstdu.mp4
Really strange. Notice that the .mp4 file is only "virtual", instead it's linked to the following "real":
http://d621461111.l.ipx.core002.streamfarm.net/17000hr/ondemand/3435hronline/mp3/podcast/robcast/rgms_KW21_wasmachstdu.mp4
But even when embedding the "real" url instead of the playlist nothing is being displayed.
Thanks in advance!

I have the same problem, I have MP4 files, player displays the right duration, plays sound, but h264 video is not rendered.
It was encoded in Sorenson Squeeze, reexported in QT, nothing helps.

@mike - make sure your flash plugin is up to date (mar. 08 - v.9.0.115) - flash version test: http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_15507

Hi,
well, thanks for all the replys. The solution for this problem is indeed on the one hand the things described in
http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?thread=8015
and on the other hand the fact that flash CS3 as a developer environment AND flash player 9.x are able to render h264 video only. So I am thinking of converting all files into flv files for a wider audience. At least for the moment mp4 video in flash is a matter that should be considered only if it is assured that the target audience has got the flash player 9.x -
what do you think?
Mar. 11, 2008andersen
@Simon - you can have both!
from the Supported Flashvars page: fallback (undefined): Only for the mediaplayer. If you play an MP4 file, set here the location of an FLV fallback. It'll automatically be picked by older flash players (example).

Hi andersen,
thanks, you're right! The option I have with this: MP4 at higher quality, maybe HD, for a target audience equipped with Flash Player 9.x and FLV at lower bitrates and resolution for the others.

Try rolling back flash player update.. 9.0.115.0 plays Mp4 perfectly but somehow 9.0.124.0 doesnot..
You can download archived flash players from
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14266
flash player 9 archives are available here --
http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/installers/archive/fp9_debug_archive.zip
select ver115 for windows..

@mp4 player,
Everything from China is junk that breaks quickly.
We don't need your SPAM either!

Hi
China is becoming more and more known in the glob due to its vast range of electronic products which are also considered as a reliable source of trading due to its name.
products from china are initially been inspected by the agents of that country and they are reliable .

@Mike,
"China is becoming more and more known in the glob due to its vast range of electronic products which" break quickly because they are of such VERY low quality.
Advertisers in the US are beginning to use the phrase, "NOT made in China" to take advantage of customers disgust with low quality products made in China.

I am seeing the same problem, and dolly sapra's solution did the trick for me (rolling back the Flash player from 9.0.124.0 to 9.0.115.0). Is this more an issue with the 9.0.124.0 Flash player or the most recent JW Player version (4.1)?
Oct. 05, 2008A bit confused
I'm experiencing a very weird issue with both latest player (4.1) and (3.12).
If I have a videoname.mp4 file in the playlist it won't work in 3.12 (black screen) and says a "file not found" error in (4.1)
If I rename the file to .flv everything goes fine in both players. I tryed to add <meta rel="type">flv</meta> in the playlist that way:
<track>
<meta rel="type">flv</meta>
<title>Some title</title>
<location>http://www......</location>
</track>
But it didn't do the trick. Any suggestion apart from rolling back to older flash version (wich I cannot force my users to do) or rename the files to .flv upon uploading?
Thanks
Oct. 05, 2008Still confused
I added the .mp4 mimetype to IIS6 (did not restart the server)
The problem remains.

@Still confused
the flashvar type has been changed in the v.4.x player -
from the flashvars page: - http://code.jeroenwijering.com/trac/wiki/FlashVars
(linked from the wiki: - http://code.jeroenwijering.com/trac/wiki )type (undefined): type of file, can be sound, image, video, youtube, camera, http or rtmp. Use this to override auto-detection.
Oct. 07, 2008Playlist size
<meta rel="type">flv</meta>
Should have worked with 3.12 though right? (wich it didn't)
I'm considering to stick to 3.12 for a while because new player seem to have lost the autoscroll playlist function (wich I found to be very useful in our layout) and has to use skins to have small playlist lines (it seems).
So I'm trying to fix the mp4 issue on 3.12 without having to rename files on upload from mp4 to flv

This might shed some light
Does not work
version 10,0,32,18 installed -- this in on my computer
Works
this is the version 10,0,22,87 installed --
This may be the issue
Is there a way to uninstall versions of flash and install older that WORK?
and how to address for future if this is the problem?
Why does adobe keep making new versions that do not work like older versions

My flv player will not open and play mp4 files; even when I rename them xxx.mp4.flv. I get the error:
"Video not found or access denied:Media Files/andrew.mp4.flv"
The path and file name is correct from my XML playlist. What do I do?
