New Plug-in Ideas

We at LongTail Video are currently hard at work designing plug-ins, but we need your help!
Though we’ve come up with a bunch of ideas, we want to know what plug-ins YOU want us to create. Here’s our initial wish list:

- Email Plug-in to send the video to a friend
- Embed Plug-in to generate the embed code
- Link Plug-in to generate a permalink to a video
- “Add This” Plug-in to add the Add This button to the player
- Digg Plug-in to add Digging functionality
- Surprise Me Plug-in to show a random YouTube video
- Yahoo! Video Search Plug-in to search Yahoo! Videos for content
- Google Video Search Plug-in to search Google Videos for content
- Ad Network Plug-ins to work w/ DART, YuMe, ScanScout, etc.

It’s a good list, but I’m sure there’s so much more we could do. And remember, the sky’s the limit! The plug-ins don’t necessaryily have to be end-user plug-ins, they could also be developer plug-ins. The basic rule is if you can dream up a plug-in, we’ll do our best to build it. Also, if you’ve got ActionScript 3 skills and want to design plug-ins yourself, either from this list or one of your own ideas, please email us @ plugins [a] long tail video [dot] com and we can help get you started.

WAHOO!!...first response post. How about a search functionality within the users own playlist XML's? Also how about a favorites button to build a favorite playlist on the fly as the user clicks the favorite button? Hope this helps!

I am having the hardest problem with this player. I am pretty basic with flash. For some reason the player will show on the site but it will not play. I probably am combining 2 different ways of doing this. Please help me out.

When the player is playing, I need 2 buttons: repeat, shuffle in controlbar to change state of playing without re-install the player.

Please, please add end-of-video navigation to another page. That would be wonderful and really complete this great player.
If it is not possible to add that feature at this time, could you provide code or script for "Dummies" to accomplish that? (please, not a link to some tutorial few of us can understand) Thank you!

I'd love the following:

- Email Plug-in to send the video to a friend

We use .net so not sure how email Plugin sends out or does Flash handle this? I'm not a Flash person!

Also interested in possible custom plugin for social network so we could in someway pass in XML list of FRIEND NAME, FRIEND EMAIL, FRIEND AVATAR to the video and after playing the video it would show a scrolling list of friends names and avatars with checkboxes so you could check the boxes needed enter an email message and send to them.

- Rate content plugin - 1-5 stars, as on Youtube & others.

- Image effect plugin - Ken Burns effects, transitions & similar. Would be great for bringing life to audio playlists with still images

- Shuffle playlist, optionally sort playlist content by popularity (based on user ratings), automatically generate playlist based on most time spent in player/most played/completed entries per player session. Perhaps this could be combined with the shuffle playlist feature to determine the most popular content.

- Show HTML-file - great for adding descriptions to content in the main window.

- Album selector - list each playlist as an album. Would be great for giving the user an easy selection of multiple playlists.

- Comment plugin. Allow user to send comment/feedback on individual entries to playlist owner

Linkable Last Image (I understand this is in the next version?)
Pulling content directly from a specified local folder in place of a playlist

In Image Rotator specifically:
Controls for the Ken Burns effect in the playlist (left right up down)
Possibly user selectable transitions.
It would be nice to have additional transitions also; especially a gradient wipe.
Additional image effects would be nice, such as having an image fade to monochrome, and perhaps a reflection option [ie wet floor and or ceiling.]
It would also be nice if pausing the image rotation paused the audio as well.

I have no idea how to start. google said i need to plug in an action script but i cant edit any of the files from the download zip. where can i find or how do i modify the (flv player) if its even there? Video Search (caption xml word search)
I'd like to see a search plug-in that can search the content of a caption xml file and return hits in a playlist like the YouSearch plug-in does. A selector would allow "exact phrase" or "any/all words" to be chosen before submitting. Clicking the found items in the playlist would set the playhead n seconds before the caption timing for the result (n = snapback variable). This would allow a user to hear the word or phrase in context.

I would really like to have a plugin or just to have it where, the embed code can not be edited and things taken out. Strictly speaking the ads. Such as, with the embed code it will say "&plugins=yume." That can easily be taken out by someone that has basic knowledge of html. I would like for there to be a way where this can be hidden and lock so that it can't be modified.

if you want to see a send to a friend email setup for rss playlists then go to http://mqmtelevision.com pick any video from any of the play lists and send it to a friend.. it sends the entire player playing just the video you picked.. make sure to thank lefTy....

I like to have a plugin, which is same as DSharing-10.swf, but after sending the link to a friend, it should say that message has been sent, and take the user to the video play or pause state. Also, at the moment, tab button does not work to go from one text box to the other.

I' like a pluging to show an alternate picture within a playing video.

Makes sense if your video is shown on a foreign page by the embedd plugin like viral. No one knows where the original source is from.
And you can provide other information too.

Settings should be.
At press start button
At press stop button
random show up (x times)
show up at special times (x% of playing video (more than 1 time possible))

Would be nice if multiple settings were possible.

Another suggestion for a plugin...

It would be great, if you developed a plugin wich made it possible to display timed user comments within the displlay area.

I imagine this similar to the captions (time and duration) of the comment freely settable.

The difference to the captions:
1) displayed comment should not overlay the captions to let them be readable.
2) User thubnail and username and time/date in front of comment (rounded corners, display, size and position as well as time/date format settable, )
3) Multiline text (fontsize and number of lines settable)
4) scrolling option in case of long comment text (truncated line number settable)
5) eventually option to display large comments in autoscroll modus

Not sure if this would be needed or helpfull too:
6) Somewhere visible button to insert comment (settable, can be done in html too, timeposition at press via javascript readable)
7) Maybe configurable message at end or specific time of video "leave a comment" (settable)

Vimeo has set up a player "SoundCloud Wave" it's sweet... can the JW Player also do this?

I would like a plug in that stops someone downloading the source flash file. My videos are copyright so ideally I would like to lock the player to my domain or hide the file name altogether when you look at the page source.

I'm probably asking for too much though!

The best way to keep people from downloading your files is:

    "DO NOT EXPOSE THEM TO THE INTERNET!"

Remember this:

    "If I have watched or listened to your media content, I have already downloaded it."

(You could use RTMPE — OH, but then there's always rtmpdump.)

Yea I am shocked there is no realtime Chat plugin so the player can be used live like Mogulus or Ustream. I found a company who makes one but they return emails every 7 days, impossible to work with.
