We are a non-profit organization that does not sell anything on our web site. I plan to try to use the player to play testimonial audios and videos. The only "commercial" aspect of our site is that people do have a chance to make a tax-deductible donation. However, donations is not the focus of the site at all.

By the way, will this player work with both IE7 and FireFox 3? Thanks for the answers

@Doug - you're welcome to use the player w/o a license as long as you don't remove the "JW" attribution when users right-click the player. And yes, the player works in all browsers.

So technically we don't have to buy a license, but we have to have the "JW" on the player when someone right clicks?

Feb. 26, 2009Adam LongTail

@Jake - If you're using the player for commercial purposes (you're a corporation or you have ads on your site) then you're required to purchase a license.

I'm a Pastor from Iglesia Bautista Doral (Doral Baptist Church) and i need this player for streaming my sermons on my church website must i purchase the license?

@Carlos - you don't need a license, but you must not eliminate the "right-click" JW Player branding if you don't have a license.

Hi,

We are currently trialling your player to show recordings of our recent presentations. We are an NHS non-profit organization. Our site is doesn't have adverts and is only for training NHS staff.

Would we require a license?

happy to discuss further

Hi
We are a non-profit archive of music and we intend to promote the music in the archive. We do have income from selling documents but it goes right back into the archival activities. Do we need to buy license? If so - is this a one time payment or is the price repeated?
Sorry for maybe? stupid questions!

I work for a community college that would like to use the player for student testimonials, virtual tour content, and other special event videos.

Do we need to purchase a license for this usage?

I also work at a community college and like to use the player for special events and instructor promotion/description of courses. Do we need a license?

Thanks - Lee

Lee/Joel/Frida/Ian - you don't need a license, but you must not eliminate the "right-click" JW Player branding or the JW watermark. If you'd like to eliminate either, then you must purchase a license.

I live in Indonesia. Could you let me know if there is any distributor in my country who can assist me for buying this license?
And could you brief me directly how to get JWPlayer, Viral and Adtonomy licensing?
I need it immediately...

Hi!

We are a company providing basic services water, sewer and toilet (utilities) to city. We do not sell anything through our website. Our site is doesn't have adverts. The intention is to show educational, citizen Campaigns and activities with the community videos.

Would we require a license?

Thank you.

Maybe the definition of "commercial" should be (a lot) better defined???

Can a non-profit organization ALWAYS use the player without a license, if not removing the "JW" thingy, or are there any OTHER restrictions/exceptions???

It's also VERY confusing to me, that it appears this site promotes "monetizing your video" (with ads), presumably through use of the player, which sounds pretty dang "commercial" to me!

@Olivia - You can purchase a license via PayPal or Google Checkout here: https://www.longtailvideo.com/players/order

@Eric - If the utility company is a for-profit enterprise, then you must purchase a license.

@Bob - I've copied your original post below w/ my comments.

Bob: Maybe the definition of "commercial" should be (a lot) better defined???

Adam: We do our best to define commercial on the Order page. Here is the definition:

The player is licensed under a Creative Commons License. It allows you to use, modify and redistribute the script, but only for noncommercial purposes. Examples of commercial use include:

* websites with any advertisements;
* websites owned or operated by corporations;
* websites designed to promote other products, such as a band or artist;
* products (e.g. a CMS) that bundle LongTail products into its offering.

That said, we regularly check this forum to answer questions.

Bob: Can a non-profit organization ALWAYS use the player without a license, if not removing the "JW" thingy, or are there any OTHER restrictions/exceptions???

Adam: As long as a non-profit does not remove either the watermark or the right-click link, that organization can use the player free of charge.

Adam: Yes, this is a commercial use. If you would like to use our AdSolution, then you should purchase a commercial license.
