I suggest you too use SimpleMachine SMF forum software, www.simplemachines.org nad page rank 8/10 is anough I think wink , free and this software use many big big forums....if you wanna to buy then VBulletin

May. 06, 2007spiceman

PLZ Get VBULLETIN... it would make navigating these threads so much easier...

May. 07, 2007Donnacha

I like the forum you have created here yourself BUT vbulletin would provide your incredible work with more exposure, especially if you also used vbSEO.

SMF is also good but, with vb, you are paying for superior admin tools that will save you time and allow you to concentrate on your core work.

May. 07, 2007Nate

I would stay away from vbulletin and phpBB. I would recommend bbPress. It is similar to your homemade forum.

By the way, thanks for your Rotator script. Very helpful!

May. 08, 2007Donnacha

@Nate: I think the whole point is not to find something similar to what he's already got but, rather, something that is easier to use, reduces the support burden and can handle further explosive growth.

I think it’s worth looking back at Jeroen’s original question and some of the key responses to it.

Jeroen only has time to visit the forum once a week but the number of posts has exploded, making it less manageable. Even though his time is scarce, his original stated preference was to tinker with the current forum, rather than use an existing, third-party solution.

Andersen, a prolific presence on the current forum, pointed out a number of features, all addressed by third-party forum software, that would make his work on the forum easier.

Denver Dave mentioned two things, tracking threads and contacting other posters, both of which are also handled well by third-party forum software.

Andersen brought up the problem of the people giving up on reading the forum and posting there question, despite the same question having been answered before. This is a common problem on all boards but, over the years, certain conventions have developed in third-party software, including stickies, better search and, most importantly, a familiar interface that users are already comfortable with.

Some people expressed a liking for the current forum but, presumably, would also like Jeroen to have more time free to work on his Flash projects.

With loads of people suggesting he go third party, Jeroen eventually agreed that this was a good idea.

Denver Dave, expressing his liking of traditional forum structures, pointed out PhpBB’s notorious spam/management problems.

So, that’s my (very) rough summary of this thread so far.

In this specific situation, in which a community is rapidly forming around Jeroen’s excellent work, the main priority should be to free up as much of his time as possible. The most obvious way to do that is to provide a stage upon which users can easily help each other, minimizing the support burden. The best way to encourage users to give back in this way is to make it easy to do so AND to encourage them to do so.

Third-party forums, learning from the accumulated experience of tens of thousands of community admins over the last decade, have developed extremely effective ways to give people credit for their good contributions. Last week, Andersen helped me so much but there was no formal way for me to attribute a “Thanks” to him, and no way for other users to know who he is, how long he has been involved, what his status or rank is etc.

Now, Andersen himself will probably be the first to point out that this trivial stuff is not what motivates him but, my point is, those things do help a community to gain momentum and what we should be looking for here is a to create a self-sustaining community that doesn’t depend entirely on too small a core of contributors.

I am an absolute Open Source fanatic but this is why I recommended a proprietary solution, vbulletin:

Easy: It is by far the easiest forum to manage. PhpBB may be free but, good Lord, it is a dog to manage. The rule of thumb is, if your time is worth more than $1 per hour and if you want others to contribute their time, go with vBulletin. All of us want Jeroen and Andersen and other major contributors to spend time interacting with the community, not wrestling with the forum application.

Powerful but Flexible: It has a huge modding community and is the only forum to have a proper, secure framework for add-ons (IPB does not have this). Again, this saves time and allows the forum to evolve easily.

Not Encrypted: you can view all the files that make up vb. IPB have announced that, as an anti-piracy measure, they will soon be encrypted, shooting their modding community in the head.

Security: As recent history has shown, it is very secure. Some simpler solutions may, arguably, be more secure (in that a smaller code base provides less of a target) but they don’t have the functionality needed to give a community extra momentum. We need both a certain level of complexity balanced with security and performance. Better security saves time.

Room to grow: don’t think about how the current forum is handling today’s traffic – what if, in six months time, you’ve got 3x more people looking to have their hands held? To handle that, you’ve got to start building an adequate community of supporters now. Assume that tomorrow’s visitors will be even more clueless and even less able to use tagging effectively – at least, with a familiar forum interface, they will be able to find their way around and more inclined to stick around and give back by supporting others.

Delegation: If you want to offload some of the support burden onto others, at least make it easy for them, give them a community management interface that’s well thought out and already well known.

Google Ranking: a huge amount of work and experimentation has gone into making the major forum applications search engine friendly. This is not something you, as a lone programmer, should be attempting to re-invent. Let the existing work of others increase the number of people who discover your Flash projects. The visibility benefits of running a highly optimized application like vb are well known; your work deserves that visibility.

Jeroen, PLEASE don’t get lured into re-inventing the whole CMS/FORUM wheel; I’ve seen too many good coders get dragged into that particular black hole. Use a proven solution that works, presents users with a familiar interface, is easy to delegate to others and free yourself to concentrate on what you’re best at.

I would be happy to do whatever I can to help.

May. 09, 2007JeroenW

Thanks for your extensive contribution! I'll definetily have a look at vBulletin. ánd Vanilla, by the way, I liked that forum a lot as well. It'll not happed overnight though, as I am trying to add some large enhancements to my players first...

May. 13, 2007User

I wish you'd release this forum script I like it =p

May. 15, 2007andersen

should have posted here on swatch/php time http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?thread=5838

May. 21, 2007andersen

wouldnt it be nice with dates in the search result?

in particular the "view all results" page could have them i guess...

ofcourse some kind of sorting would also come in handy at times, but i guess that dates could be implemented relatively easy in the "view all results"?

May. 30, 2007JeroenW

It's indeed a good idea to add dates. Note that the search results are already crudely sorted by 'relevance'. On top are items/threads which contain your query in the title, then come the items/threads which contain the query in their lead and last come the threads/items which contain the query in their body - their posts.

Jun. 02, 2007Will

1. A typO corrector ( I know - REALLY a wish).
2. A bigger (wider) edit box.
3.
tags that retain the indentation (don't strip spaces and tabs).
5. Editing of previous posts (to correct all those typOs).

Jun. 04, 2007Outlaw16151

JWim using unlimitboard, its pretty cool, gives you a collection of skins in the admins area and you can use your own domain name, like i have.

http://unlimitboad.com

Jun. 05, 2007Eugenio

Jeroen, did you code this (little but really nice) forum we're using?

Under which license is it?

I'm sorry if the answer is already somewhere and I missed it wink

Jun. 06, 2007JeroenW

I've coded it indeed, but it'll be quite difficult to use it standalone. Lots of it's functionality is integrated with other parts of my website and there's little error-handling...
If you're looking for a nice, easy to use forum, you're better off with one of the suggestions mentioned above. I especially like the Vanilla board.

@Will: I'll try to implement a typo corrector!

Jun. 06, 2007Will

@Jeroen - Thanks, that would be a major advance in technology. wink

Jun. 19, 2007JeroenW

Typo corrector added! Quite simple, but I think it'll do the trick .. wink

Jun. 19, 2007Will

YES!!! wink

Jun. 22, 2007andersen

the typo corrector is a real advancement!
i have noticed though, that the postings counter, counts aborted postings too.
that is, if you start a new response, and regret, the counter is not decremented when the posting is not reposted...

Jun. 22, 2007JeroenW

True, will still have to fix that with an additional query... wink

Jun. 26, 2007Srivas

Hello,

Im using this forum and the player itself for just a few days, but after searching around and getting kind advice from senior users, I got everything working as I like and the player is a charm!

But a few improvements would save a few hours and there would be less questions from the beginners like me.

One thing would be nice to have, is to be able to see the code on Demos page next to the examples, instead of looking around in the source and trying to understand what is what. For example, it took me a whole lot of time to figure out how to add an extra playlist link to the page with the <a href="JavaScript:loadFile... command, since I just dont know any Javascript :$, although finally I figured it out. So some simple Javascript code examples would make it easyer for the beginners like me.

And I also didn't see a link to the demos page in the Readme file, atleast not catching the eye at first sight.

And one more thing is that some tips are inside threads, which have already changed their topic, and makes them difficult to find.
So if (ofcourse that means somebody has to take their time...) it would be possible to rename some threads with more specific description, that would also make a difference. And some threads are repeating and could be deleted, but thats a whole other job.

Some thoughts...

Jul. 02, 2007JeroenW

Thanks, I'll have a look at it!

Jul. 26, 2007Mercurythread

I just found this forum and its been one of the best reads I've had all day. It could be a little easier to read if some form of paging was used so that after ten posts a page system was in use but apart from that I like it.

Aug. 03, 2007www.darkzune.com

This forum is very good, although i dont like the way we cant see all posts and if you search sometimes it tells you to search again with more terms due to too many results.

Nice site though dude.

Aug. 03, 2007Will

@darkzune,

Better to use Google to search the forums... wink

Aug. 21, 2007beats

hey JW i love your site and your forum. keep up the good work

Aug. 27, 2007JeroenW

Thanks! Note that you can see all posts in a certain category, and that I fixed the search function a bit: it now shows more results.

Aug. 29, 2007Bobby Money

It would be cool to see this forum use vbulletin or IPB script.

Todd

Sep. 01, 2007thomas

in the forum overview, the topic name is displayed along with the topic starter and the last post date. it would be great if it would also list the name of the last poster and the past posting time.

Sep. 10, 2007website-designer

Actually this site is already great. For further improvement, I also think this forum should use vbulletin.

Sep. 16, 2007PopScript.com

JW. In my opinion I think you would do better to use Wordpress as there are so many plugins and users can post comments to the downloads or posts thus allowing you to manage the site alot better. Plus it would make it easier for users to navigate through the website. Besides with all the widgets and social bookmarking add-ons you would probably get awsome seo and ranking.

Just my 2 cents grin

Sep. 21, 2007JanB

Jeroen, I find the 'Return to List' link rather confusing. It is a 'back' link which doesn't always do what it says (for instance when you replied to a message). Couldn't you make a real link to the forum? Besides, it would be nice to know in which category you are.
To be honest, I prefer the normal forum set-up where you can browse all topics, not only recent ones.

Oct. 04, 2007JeroenW

@JanB: You're right! The 'return to list' is a 'back' link now. The category is currently only reflected in the thread's color, I'll find a way to print that somewhere at the top of the page. I have grown the list of topics that display.

@PopScript.com: I did use a per-page commenting, like wordpress, but it really got messy. Requests started getting posted everywhere and the script pages got very long. I like the way it's set up now, with the static script pages and the support forum separated.

Nov. 25, 2007JeroenW

Oh, it doesn't work anymore? I must have messed up something. Will fix that ASAP!

Dec. 13, 2007JeroenW

No clue whether the players work in shockwave either. I don't understand why that is still being used at all.

@JasonL: I'll add that to an update of the site wink

Dec. 16, 2007andersen

i find it a real pitty to give the google ads a central placement on the page -
then i would rather have the old narrow layout, that would not distract and confuse me so much!
being google ads that seem thematic, you will not too seldom show ads for competing products -
do google really pay enough to make that worthwhile?
please at least give the ads a contrasting background and a headline thats more obvious than the tiny google ad warning...

Dec. 16, 2007JeroenW

Just doing some tests on the AdSense right now ... but you are right, the large ones on top are too distracting wink

I hope you like the -better readable- forum though? I especially like the new code display.

Dec. 17, 2007Lord Rhythm

Only thing about the new forum is, where are the smileys at? Haha.

Dec. 17, 2007JeroenW

They're still there wink

But not visible in the 'Add reaction' anymore. This will prevent jokers from entering only 20 smileys...

Dec. 17, 2007andersen

indeed, you made it quite "fool proof" (but i figured it anyhow) grin
and thanks for the new improved layout, the code box, and the removal of most of the google ads! - very nice!

Feb. 13, 2008AUTO FIT

You may want to auto fit in so that the words fit on the screans of all screen sizes

Feb. 20, 2008Robert

I think the jv player is good and look forward to bits on the run. Sure could use some more help with some questions I had but after some initial help with one post, then all help stopped and cannot get help for a solution for a different probably fairly simple problem, that I placed in another post regarding how to get hotlinks to click in the movies shown in the player.. The forum is good but possibly when you launch bits on the run, a help desk ticket system, could be good also.

Feb. 20, 2008Robert

Actually that may be a good suggestion for the forum.....instead of a forum there could be a help desk ticket system and in addition it automatically places all questions in a master faq page index. So all previous questions are listed in the faq in an A through Z index and also cross referenced by catagory and key words.

Feb. 20, 2008JeroenW

Ouch, that's also a lot of work wink But the idea of an auto-generated FAQ is a good idea. Will take a look at this!

Feb. 20, 2008Michael Rowney

I love this site loads by the way. I only discovered it yesterday but I love its simplicity but also the wide variety of downloads on offer. If you really wanted to improve...could you make the .fla's available for download available for many Flash versions such as MX 2004 and 2001.

Thanks
Michael

Feb. 20, 2008AJAX

@Robert,

I don't think you understand the system here.

Those who help you are all volunteers. We help when we have the time and knowledge. If you ask a question that we don't have the answer to, we can't help you.

Any sort of a help desk/ticket system would just be ignored. In fact, we might just go to the beach. Then what?

Apr. 01, 2008JT

I do apologize but did I miss something or how can someone register for this forum to post a new topic?

Apr. 01, 2008AJAX

No registration required. Just choose an appropriate category, go to the end and enter a thread topic and a username and post away.

Apr. 09, 2008andersen

would it maybe be good to have the codeblocks collapsed to a few lines as default, or as scrollable textareas of a fixed size?
as it is now, the long stretches of code look ugly and make scrolling in the treads a pain, i find...

Apr. 10, 2008JeroenW

That is a good suggestion I'll take a look at. Code blocks can indeed be fixed to a certain height and extended on click. Will make some threads a lot shorter.

May. 08, 2008andersen

i have noticed a few instances where people copy/paste the displayed code of the playlists on the "Supported Playlists" page

this makes it contain minus signs and renders it unusable: - <playlist version="1" xmlns="http://xspf.org/ns/0/">
<title>XSPF Example Playlist</title>
<info>http:/xspf.org/xspf-v1.html</info>
- <trackList>
- <track>
<title>Afraid of the Dark</title>
<location>http://www.jeroenwijering.com/upload/afraid.flv</location>
</track>
- <track>
would it be an idea to have .txt files in the links maybe? or at least write a line of text on how people should save the file?

also i really miss the "good old days" when there still was a playlist example in the download - setting up a playlist can be surprisingly difficult to explain to a novice - while an example tells more than "a thousand words"...

May. 15, 2008JeroenW

I'll try setting up fool-proof playlist copy-pasting. The xml files right now are of course rendered in the browser. Sigh...

Adding a playlist to the player zip is another good idea. I took it out to make things easier, but see now that stuff has gotten too easy... wink

May. 19, 2008Chocolat

Well, for the above worry, I guess one way of taking care of this would be for JW to check their IPs, and lock the culprits...
Of course, could be harder to achieve if people are hiding behind proxies.

Saying that, I like the idea of 'open post', I really hate passwords.

- I have a interesting idea, and how we could fix this:

Maybe someone could come up with a script, that for instance, check the IP/existing user name combo - If it doesn't match,
well, they can't post under that name. Then a second useful script that would allow to retrieve a name, by typing the IP! (if forgotten).

What do you think girlz?

May. 19, 2008andersen

@Chocolat

wont work because many (maybe even most!) have dynamic IPs that change everytime they log on the web (and then go here)

i think the simplest solution (which is far from perfect, but simple) - would be a password mailed to you when you want in -
such a system is easily fooled, but introduces a small delay and a small hurdle that would prevent most spammers/imposters

but - "dont fix it, if it aint broken" - and open access is worth some trouble in my opinion...

May. 19, 2008positionMarker

Yeah, Chocolat, if that's even your real name, my IP changes every 8 hours [and so does my pseudonym on some days]. If I was locked out, you wouldn't get any more help.

May. 19, 2008Chocolat

Yes, absolutely, I forgot about dynamic IPs, sorry, my lack of focus.

May. 20, 2008chaz

Jun. 05, 2008andersen

apparently it is possible to misread the download button on - http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?item=JW_FLV_Media_Player
as a headline, so at least one person have downloaded the longtail flv desktop player instad of the zip-package with the
jw flv media player .swf - as reported here - http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?thread=10927

maybe it would be best to keep the two more separate and use the same graphic formalism for the two, to minimize that risk

also some statements on the system requirements for the various players might be useful next to the downloads -
(i know there are such on the tutorial and support pages - but the questions in the forum show that quite many never go there )
-------

a tutorial on the specifics of playing .swf files would be really nice - it is a quite big topic on its own - and not easily explained in proper detail in a few sentences -
usually i end up advising to convert to a video format - which isnt always suitable (vector graphics) even if the animation contains no actionscript - i wonder to what extend the v.4 player will be more relaxed or restrictive in this respect...

maybe it would be possible to include in such a "how to play swf animations" tutorial - both some working and not working examples for comparison, as well as sourcecode with correct security settings for maximum playability ?

please see this thread for example - http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?thread=10928#msg68884
-------

i wonder why we havent seen any jw-player tutorial videos yet ? - as is getting so common in the flash community

(i do realize that video, due to its linear structure, is just about the worst way to teach anything - and that it has only gained such a popularity in the flash community because of the crippling and contagiously bad structuring of the flash ide)

but for really simple stuff such as the implementation of these player in a webpage - it would indeed make some sense
(not the least considering the topic wink

how about announcing a contest for the best instructional video on the implementation of the jw-players?

Jun. 16, 2008JeroenW

As always, thanks for these comments andersen. They're all helpful and I'll make sure to fix them.

Unfortunately, SWF playback has gotten worse in Actionscript3: AS3 files don't have access to the duration of AS2 files, so the player doesn't know the duration of most SWF files. Best solution: do not use SWF animations, but convert to MP4 or FLV. I'll write some info on that!

Jun. 28, 2008Candy

There are a lot of notes here and I may have missed one that suggested a floating menu, that slides down as the person scrolls down that very long list of subject titles. I missed this specific forum and entered something on the general forum that should have been in this forum (maybe you will catch it.) because by the time I got to the bottom of the list of subjects the menu of various types of forums were way at the top and I hadn't even looked at them yet. If that menu had floated down as I scrolled I wouldn't have missed it.

I think it would be good to as someone said above to make the lists a bit tighter, I think your mind wonders in the white space. LOL.

You also (this is probably easier) could simply have a option box for all of the forums. on every new thread as it is created. So the individual is made aware of the options then if he finds himself in not the best spot.

Well, thank you, I am not a forum kind of person, but I do appreciate the opportunity to voice my opinion when it comes up.

Jun. 30, 2008Matt

How about adding a bit of code to search existing threads before a new one is created. When a user submits a new thread, it checks all current threads for words/topics and if there are a lot of similarities to another one, there could be an intermediate step that says something like "Is this what you were looking for?" and lists all similar threads found. Then the user could click a button that says something like "No, submit my new thread". This kind of puts a FAQ spin on the forums and could potentially cut down on the amout of new threads quite a bit. I see several threads where the second post just states that the topic has already been discussed and it gives a link to another thread. This would solve that problem.

Jun. 30, 2008comedian

@Matt,

Great idea, you have my vote on it.

Next... How to create a new thread if the post is too far off-topic? That's a real challenge...

Jul. 09, 2008JeroenW

@Matt, comedian: there is already a line asking people to first search on top of the new thread form. Perhaps that needs more urgency.

@Candy: perhaps a particular 'floating' system isn't the best solution, but I do get your issue. I'll think about a way to make the category list + search more visible.

Jul. 09, 2008comedian

I had never seen:When posting, please make sure to have first searched this forum.before! Perhaps because it's at the bottom of a very long page.

I don't know what is the normal new user behavior, but it seems that they start reading a thread, then want to make a post, so perhaps they are usually at the [b]Add a reaction[/] and should be shown the "When posting" and maybe also given the opportunity to start a new thread? I'm not sure, may be worth a trial.

Another thing that a lot of users seem to miss are the riseup menus at the top of the page. I guess something shuld be done to make it more obvious that they are menus.

@Candy,

Look at the articles written by the experts on page layout (doesn't matter if it's print or Internet). They all say that lots of whitespace, "clean", NOT cluttered, is the best layout.

Jul. 11, 2008nirsound

hi JW and all, I'm a newbie to the forum, I love the player and the imagerotator. Humble suggestion:
Add login to the forum. We need to able see all the recent posts you have been participating in once logged in.
Login will help moderation and help contributors follow up on their posts.
(wordpress.org forum is a great example of a good login system with links to all your posts/replies.)

The idea came to me when I posted a question about imagerotator. comedian replied but it took me a week to reply back and by then, I feel the thread was kinda lost in the forum: http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?thread=11296

Today, I use RSS to follow up on my posts in the forum but i know not everyone remembers to subscribe to all their posts.
Hope this helps!

Jul. 13, 2008tumbledryer

i personally got lost looking for an answer concerning the javascript calls in the new JW 4.0 player..

my suggestion would be to have subcategories based on player version or something similar, there is a gold mine worth of information but its very confusing.

Jul. 29, 2008JeroenW

Cookie-based forum indexes are in there. So if you go to the forum again, you'll see a list with your most recent posts.

Aug. 22, 2008Pete

Forum Suggestions:
How about a button that will insert a hyperlink? I'd like to see more buttons to ease typing, like Italic, underline and picture insertion!

Sep. 10, 2008JeroenW

Correct! Unfortunately the link button was excessively abused for spamming. Hence why it's removed...

Oct. 15, 2008localdog

Speaking as a fairly inexperienced user, I find it very confusing reading through the forums not knowing if the codes im reading apply to v3 or v4 players. I try to 'sort' this by looking at the dates on the posts but even then its confusing. And a better explanation of swfobject 1.5 vs 2.1 and how each works or doesnt work with your player would be helpful. I have "tried" to read the technical details of each, but I dont have a masters degree in science and its a little complicated for new users...lol

So... if there were main headings where posts could be sorted according to v3 or v4 players, that would be helpful. And maybe a "JW Player for Dummies" section?

Thanks for all the great help ive gotten to date though, no complaints!

Oct. 15, 2008virtualReality

@localdog,

swfobject is simple. SWFObject v1.5 is considered to be obsolete and is no longer supported by the developers according to posts on their Google Code mailing list.

Mostly, you can distinguish the v3 player by its name "mediaplayer.swf" vs. the v4 player which is usually named "player.swf.

THIS is the "JW Player for Dummies" site! grin

Due to the complexity of possible applications, we're all "Dummies". So... give it your best shot, post your code/test page link, and someone will help you further.

Oct. 30, 2008Alan Chandler

I notice right at the head of this forum someone suggests SMF, and then someone else said it would take a lot of time to manage.

I have been running an SMF forum for little over a year now @ http://www.melindasbackups.com/forum (unfortunately we took the decision you have to actually register to see it - so you can't really browse my forum - but it is quite easy to set up with other options). We now over 75,000 posts and just over 430 members.

It was a breeze to set up (I put a trial version on my home server to see first - and then within a couple of days had it working at this domain in a couple of hours. It did take an evening to get some logos and stuff at the head of every page correct.

Regular admin used to be nothing more than generating a database backup - which you can do from within the forum. I have since automated this via cron scripts at the hosting company, and so off site backups via my own home machine, so now regular admin is nothing.

When I first started, I inhabited the SMF forums, and although everyone there was very helpful, I never had any questions about forum operation to ask them - it just worked. My main questions were about hosting companies and issues like that, and these were all answered quickly and with useful information.

During that year, we decided to completely reorganise the boards (we have about 50 - SMF allows hierarchical forums at any depth) and it was really easy. Didn't even have to close the site down.

Permission wise, we have different groups of people with different permissions sets - so we are able to delegate moderation etc with no problem at all.

I also developed two separate applications - a AJAX/php chat program and a AJAX/php football pool, which sit outside the forum, but SMF provides a nice interface so my php scripts so that I can easily check if the current user is logged in and what their ID is (Try going to http://www.melindasbackups.com/chat and you will it works out your are not logged into the forum and displays an error message)

Then last week, I wanted to explore embedding videos into our site. I went to the SMF support forums, and found an extension to embed YouTube directly into the site. I downloaded a zip file, and went into the package admin section of of the site, where it provided a form to upload the zip file, and then install it - all automatically (except ... see below)

We chose an add-on theme rather than the default for our forum - again it was an upload and automatic install. But of course its main page templates are different, so the embed video extension did not know how to update this theme. Instead it came with instructions on how to change a couple of places in the php page templates and language file to fix this. It was when I looked at this, I realised how easy it was to extend it myself to incorporate jw player - and I am doing this at the moment - hence finding myself here. (I already have embedding single videos into a forum post working - I am looking at beautifying things now).

If anyone wants to discuss this further contact me via the webmaster e-mail address at that domain and I would be happy to help out (and I can of course create a temporary account then to let you see inside).

I think one addition to the Main site and perhaps the forum itself would be a mechanism to allow users to upload video tutorials. Yes, the folks at Longtail would need to screen them for accuracy before letting them go live on the site but that's a small price to pay I think.

Many of the questions posted by new user have been answered many times. Now there is nothing wrong with that at all but if there were a section for "How To Video Tutorials" I venture to say it would become extremely popular very quickly.

I see many questions on configuring the player, building playlists, and how do I make this small modification to the player. A collection of video examples would help new and old users alike get optimum performance out of JW's great scripts and make it easier for them to taylor the look and feel of the player on their web sites.

I've posted a few simple How To's here and according to the logs on my server they get viewed fairly often. The interesting thing is the older ones still get watched as often as the new ones. That's what leads me to believe such a library would be an asset to Longtail.

Im using this forum and the player itself for just a few days, but after searching around and getting kind advice from senior users, I got everything working as I like and the player is a charm!
