I'm having a problem with the video taking forever to load, then when it loads and buffer, plays for a little bit then begins pause and buffer then play, and so on..
This happens the WHOLE time..
I'm wondering, what do I need to do in order to get the buffering to stop so I may watch the video in full?

BUMP*****
I have the same problem and it is really annoying.

Can you post a link to the troublesome video so someone can test it and determine if it is a server or a client problem?
Jul. 06, 2008tom
Hello Jeroen,
you can also use your wizard to reproduce the problem.
Clear your browser cache and set the following flags:
controlbar=none
autostart=true
repeat=true
After "Update and Preview" you can see the buffer logo every 5 seconds.
The same settings but with controlbar - no problem.
The old version 3.16 hasn't this problem!
Thanks Tom
Here the wizard code:
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.jeroenwijering.com/embed/swfobject.js"></script>
<div id="player">This text will be replaced</div>
<script type="text/javascript">
var so = new SWFObject('http://www.jeroenwijering.com/embed/player.swf','mpl','470','320','9');
so.addParam('allowscriptaccess','always');
so.addParam('allowfullscreen','true');
so.addParam('flashvars','&file=/upload/flash.flv&controlbar=none&autostart=true&repeat=true');
so.write('player');
</script>

Seems to be fixed in the latest release.
If not, can you tell me which OS / CPU you use? I don't think it is an issue of autostart/repeat.
Also, did you try increasing the 'bufferlength' a little?

Amen. I do not know whether to hate google video, my hughes satellite, whatever movieshower comes with microsoft; but every few seconds i am forced to wait for buffering though sometimes i do not have to! Damn them all!
Why can't we just have a choice such as "no damn buffering! i'll take it substandard!" i have gotten to hate all people connected to computer services and softwear for their cruelty to the public: we never get a choice. It goes back to mac with the damn cherry bomb next to "OK?"
"Increase buffering" -- as if there is an easy-to-find place to do it! It should all be obvious, you guys! When we watch something a right click should give us the choices so we can chose to do what we want to, period!

Oh my god i hate bloody pausing vidoes!!!! This is really driving me insane - I only want to watch "Mr Hanky the christmas poo" on you tube, it,s not like i'm asking the earth now is it?!?

Ye, buffering is annoying, it's either to do with your own connection, or to do with the bandwidth of the server that the video is been hosted on. If you're on a static connection then it's got to be the server that the video is hosted on and the amount of people using it. (Assholes, they should all fuck off when i want to watch a video!!!!)
Fuck them all!!

Are you using a CMS module to embed the player? (like Joomla for instance)?
I had the same problem when using that. I know embed the player directly and it works great.

This happens to me all the time when I try and watch various tv shows online. I notice it mainly happens when I try and watch House but when I watch other shows it barely happens. I have tried watching (House) from various different websites to see if one would be better and it doesn't seem to be the case. How do I get the videos to buffer to 100%? Approximately how long should that take for an hour long episode? It is really annoying trying to watch something and it stops to buffer constantly and sometimes never fully does. I would rather not watch House with a stuttering cast.
Any suggestions (aside from watching it on the ol' tube since I don't have cable) and can you give me directions in very basic non computer literate terms?
Thanks so much!!

There is still an issue somewhere with buffering... When the video is paused it buffers FAST, but when its playing, it doesnt buffer fast enough. It seems as if there is bandwidth throttling somewhere!
Jul. 01, 2009archita
hi,
pause the video and see that a colored line is moving a bit further when the line gets over you can play the video.
Jul. 08, 2009henry
i wish some one would solve this problem, pausing it will not solve the problem because many sites other then youtube often only allow a small amount of buffering at a time, so it will still end up freezing after a short period
Jul. 14, 2009JeroenW
Actually, if you use HTTP streaming or download, the entire video will be downloaded. So the pausing does work.
In general, frequent buffering means the bitrate of your video exceeds the bitrate of your connection. There is a workaround in the "bufferlength" flashvar. Set it high (e.g. to 10 or 15), so a lot will be buffered before playing.

a note for JeroenW. Thank you for trying to explain the buffering problem---- but what the HELL is a flashvar--- and how do I find the mentioned "bufferlength" "flashvar" setting option????? Every time a computer geek tries to help with a situation, they never include complete instructions of HOW TO GET TO THE SETTINGS!! What's with that. but we do appreciate you TRYING to help... you all just need to learn how to teach! thanks for listening!

I mute the video until it is completely loaded. In the meantime I click on another window and read email or play solitaire or do house things and come back. You can count to ten only so many times, ha

This is not an internet speed problem. I'm on a huge, reliable connection. What I'm experiencing is (a) choppy video and (b) video that loads much faster when paused.
I have several servers recording and hosting video in my system and only one has this problem. The only thing I can think of is that I've got different ffmpeg versions encoding the video on each server and from the problematic server, JW player has a hard time handling the video due to some subtle encoding difference. It's working so hard to decode video for display that it's negatively affecting download speed.
Thoughts?

I have no ideas where the problem lies. I'm even on bitgravity's CDN, which has just amazing performance.
When I use JWplayer, latest version with type=bitgravity, my mp4 performance is just horrid! Whats really strange, is that when the video is PAUSED, the video will download REALLY fast, but when playing, the download slows dramatically.
This has been an ongoing issue, with several people expressing similar problems, but I have not gotten to the bottom of this problem.
I almost have no choice but to rewrite half of my damned website, and just use bitgravity's native mp4 player (which seems to work flawlessly.)
I DONT want to do this, how can i help fix jwplayer???

I have a Mac and PC and both won't play videos without buffering.
I'm wondering if it's my dsl connection.
Sep. 23, 2009rocko
make sure your adobe flash is up to date and your java is also if not remove it and redownload it,...also if you are useing broadband thats an issue too, roadrunner works pretty good but the wireless broadband is another story adobe reader can also help some but makes your computer vulnerable to hakers. free up some unused file also on your computer by deleating them in your control panel add remove programs.check your virual memory also!

i tweaked every pc setting possible based on advice on the internet - nothing worked. someone adviced me to change my cable modem. it worked. before, my downloading speed from the internet was 300+kps and streaming video buffered every three seconds. after replacing the cable modem, my download speed averaged 9000+kps. streaming video is now lightning quick with no buffering issues whatsoever. try it. it may be the solution to your problem.

Hi there guys and gals...I have similar problems and have heard (on the grapevine) that enabling Java Script (or maybe disabling it) can give improvements. It might just be another Urban Legend though. Please, any non overly technical help would be much appreciated.
