Bits on the Run: Features
Manage Your Video Content
Upload your videos, create playlists, design players, whitelabel the dashboard and track analytics within our easy to use online dashboard.
Organize your video library with our easy to use tagging system, tag your videos upon upload and create rule-based playlists for these tags. As a bonus - tags are also submitted to Google for video SEO.
Use our System API to build video management capabilities into your own website or CMS. Our custom Drupal and WordPress plugins make the integration seamless.
Group your videos into playlists, select them manually or generate rule based lists. Publish entire playlists using a player embed, or opt for publishing via RSS (for e.g. iTunes or Boxee).
Give each of your videos a custom preview image. Upload your own JPG, PNG or GIF image, or choose a frame directly from the video. Preview thumbnails can be individually loaded from our servers.
Download our Android or iPhone mobile apps to manage your videos on-the-go. Perform basic tasks such as video tagging, previewing. Publish directly to Facebook, Twitter or your own site/blog.

Upload captions in the SRT and DFXP formats. Publish your videos with closed captions for accessibility and Section 508 compliancy. Or publish them with multiple subtitle tracks, allowing your viewers to select their language.
Improve your video SEO by assigning basic metadata such as title, date and description to every video and playlist. Amend your own metadata and store information specific to your library.
Upload & Encode From Any Source
Upload your video (and audio) files from your desktop, FTP client, mobile phone or API integration. Create custom encodes, embed watermarks or bypass our encoders alltogether.
Use our mobile apps to upload videos from your mobile phone. We support both the iPhone and Android platforms. Our transcoders automatically correct for rotated videos.
FTP Batch Uploads
Use FTP to upload large videos or batches to Bits on the Run. Any FTP client can be used, file resuming is supported and your FTP login is the same as your Bits on the Run Dashboard login. Metadata can also be batch ingested through CSV files.
Tweak the settings of your transcoding profiles to your own quality/filesize preference. Create additional transcoding profiles in the MP4, WebM and FLV file formats. Render new transcodes automatically or on-demand.
Are your original videos already optimized for web playback? Use our Passthrough functionality to bypass the transcoders and have our players directly playback your uploads. Works for FLV and MP4 videos.
Brand or protect your content by placing a watermark into your videos. Upload any JPG, GIF or PNG image, then set desired positioning and transparancy.
Upload and manage audio too! Transcode audio into the AAC, Vorbis and MP3 formats. Publish your audio files using the player or by via RSS (podcasts).
Deliver Your Videos in Stunning HD
Deliver stunning HD quality video using our Adaptive Streaming technology & our built-in Content Delivery Network.
Publish your player with a single line of embed code and watch as it work seemlessly in both Flash and HTML5. Sit back and watch videos on your desktop or from a mobile platform such as the iPad, iPhone and Android - we've taken care of the cross-platform and multi-device support.
Our adaptive streaming technology delivers optimized video quality to every single viewer, adjusting appropriately for device and connection speed. Video quality adapts during playback when necessary.
Not interested in adaptive streaming? No problem - we offer a manual HD toggle, so users can decide for themselves which quality (low or high) they prefer to stream the video in.
Global CDN Delivery
We work with multiple Tier-1 CDNs to ensure your video experiences smooth delivery around the globe. Expect short buffering delays and high-quality video, no matter where you (and your viewers) are located.
Encryption & Signing
By default, your video streams are encrypted using the RTMPe protocol to prevent content theft. Leeching of your videos (unauthorized linking from other sites) can be prevented with our Content Signing protocol; we also support HTTPS.
Direct Asset Access
In addition to video players, you can link or embed other assets in your own website or application: video downloads, preview thumbnails, RSS feeds and iFrame friendly preview pages.
Design Your Video Experience
Take advantage of our built in tools and design the perfect video viewing experience for your audience. Bits on the Run offers a built-in version of the JW Player, access to the JW Player plugins and skins, and direct integrations with the most popular social networks.
Point & Click Styling
Create custom video players with ease by setting dimensions, layout, playback options and additional features in our Dashboard. All features and options of the popular JW Player are at your disposal.
Pixel Perfect Skinning
Change the style of your video players with one of our sleek, pre-installed player skins. Alternatively, design your own player skin to support your Brand's look and feel. Use any image editor to build the skin, and uploaded directly to Bits on the Run.
Publish entire playlists with a single player using our built-in visual playlist feature. Metadata for each individual video is displayed along with the preview thumbnail. Set repeat and/or shuffle options for desired playback behavior.
Make the most of our social sharing options for your video players. Allow your visitors to share the video link or the embed code. Shortcuts are provided for sharing to Facebook and Twitter.
Increase your brand awareness with a player watermark (logo). Any GIF, PNG and JPG image can be used. Customize the watermark position within the player and/or add a click URL with a link back to your site.

Distribute Across the Cloud
Publish your videos to Facebook, Twitter and YouTube with a single click. Use RSS Feeds to publish videos to Boxee, iTunes and Google.
Facebook and Twitter
Get your videos on Facebook and Twitter with a single click from our Dashboard or Android/iPhone Apps. Our video players display share shortcuts within the dock to facilitate viral content sharing.
Facebook has whitelisted Bits on the Run for direct inclusion of video players. This means your videos will play inside your players on Facebook. When a viewer shares your videos within Facebook, additional metadata is sent to ensure a rich preview (with thumbnail and description) is shown.
Upload to YouTube
Bits on the Run can upload your videos directly to your YouTube account for you. This prevents multiple uploads and ensures a transfer of video metadata such as video title and tags.
Publish the RSS feed of your playlists to services such as iTunes and Boxee. RSS is also useful to distribute your content to syndication partners. With our playlist functionalities, you control which videos can and cannot be syndicated.
Use Our Video Sitemap SDK to easily generate a video sitemap on your website. This video sitemap provides Google and other search engines with the location and metadata of your videos, so they show up in search results.
Remove the reference to Bits on the Run from your embed codes by DNS Masking our servers with your own sub-domain. In addition to video players, this works for video downloads, preview thumbnails, RSS feeds and preview pages.
Analyze Performance with Detailed Analytics
Rich analytics are as important for video as for any other online content. Bits on the Run offers a full set of built-in video analytics.
Track the performance of your videos in real-time. We report the number of page embeds, the number of video plays and the total time viewed per account, per video and per day.
Insert your Google Analytics account ID to have our players send analytics data to Google. This helpful integration helps you match your video analytics to your regular page analytics. We send page embeds, video plays and total time viewed.
Drill down into the engagement chart of a video to assess its performance. Where do viewers drop off? Which sections are they replaying? Correct for drop-off points by re-uploading a new edit of a video. Leverage high engagement sections and drop in a video ad.
Export to Excel
Export analytics data to Excel (or any other CSV-capable package) for offline analysis. Set custom date ranges and leverage an additional level of detail (such as a split between player streams and video downloads).
Use our API to import video analytics into your own website or application. Data can be exported for any date range, by day and by video, aggregated and raw. Engagement data is available as well.
